Kitsune Mysterious Stranger / Picaroon: How Would You Build It?

Advice

Sovereign Court

I've got a few of my own ideas, but I'm still relatively new to Society rules and the ideas involved. Basically, I'd like to play a Kitsune Mysterious Picaroon, but I'm finding that a I have 200 directions I want to take it. If you were building a character with this race and classes, what feats would you take? Weapons, armor, other useful items? I'm leaning toward Rapier/Pepperbox and Dragon Pistol (since the MS can ignore misfires), but I've never actually had a character above level 2 and I'm curious about what I can do to avoid crippling myself (aside from "insisting on playing this character at all," of course).

Thoughts?

Well ask around (which you've done)
Then try out different builds, look at how they look at various levels..(Be prepared for low will saves)

I typically use hero lab to build out the character @ 1st, 4th, 7th and 12th.. the fits three let you weigh them against the icon is... the last to see how you'll enter the Seeker levels as...

Some builds are fairly easy.. getting a flexible build can be fun and it lets you see how to pick your feats..

I'll have to check that out! I'm away from home at the moment, so I don't have access to a PC or anything else that can run it.

Still definitely open to ideas, concerns, etc! The big issue, of course, is "how do you reload/rotate the barrels?" but there are a number of possibilities there.

Well you could also get the Villians Codex and go like my Guntank/Spell Eater/Shieldmarshal did..Dragon Pistols! 2 so far, a +1 Thundering Pistol and a +1 Shocking one..

Gonna call the Thunder & Lightning

That sounds like my style! Always been fond of ice and electric elements, and I've heard the Stranger/Dragon Pistol combo can be pretty powerful. Fun as a combination with the Picaroon—in the immortal words of Holo-Pearl: PARRY, PARRY, THRUST, SHOCKING DRAGON PISTOL SHOT TO THE CHEST. (Picaroons don't parry, but it's the spirit of the thing...)

The big guestions is how you going to spread your feats gunslinger is very feat intensivel depending on the build. Two weapon builds particularly.

My main gunslingers: Boomstick and Kylie are a mess, not optimized at all. Things like Iron Will and technologist are not good for gunslinging. I'm looking forward to deft shootist wit Boomstick.

Definitely agree that that's my main concern here—thankfully, Picaroon comes with TWF and Weapon Finesse, along with bonus feats every 4 levels, otherwise there'd be no way to get it off the ground. I'm concerned about playability at low levels as well, tbqh. Opening Volley seems like it was made for Picaroons, though!

The most flamboyant option obviously would be 2 levels of juggler bard. Toss your sword in the air, rotate the barrel, spin around, catch your sword behind your back, and stab someone.

For low level options, cestus has a 19-20 crit range, is piercing, and leaves your hand free to rotate barrels / reload a dragon pistol. That will buy you time till you can get where you want to be.

A level of slueth gets you the ability to regain 1 grit 1 in 6 times you make a knowledge check related to the adventure.

*Don't* do what I did. Myst stranger 1 / Picarroon 3 / Sleuth 1 / Shield Marshall X

I think I am up to like 5+ swift actions and 3-4 immediate actions that I can choose from, but I can only do one in any given round...

Appreciate the advice! I'd like to avoid level dipping, if possible, but the Juggler Bard idea is very definitely intriguing from both a mechanics perspective and an "imagine how that would look" perspective, and "only" two levels isn't too prohibitive. It definitely allows me to make use of my weapons to their full extents!

While a cestus is bad for my character flavor, it's starting to look like my best shot.

I'm expecting to aim for MS level 5 so I can get Stranger's Fortune and just ignore misfires all day long. That'll let me use alchemical cartridges without worrying about increased misfires. That said, grabbing a Wand of Mending and investing a rank in UMD means I might be able to put that off just a little longer (so long as I have a backup weapon—like my cestus/rapier or other gun, depending on wealth).

Doing a bit more research, Juggler gives me a few basic Bard spells-- including Mending, which should fix the "what happens if my gun breaks" without me having to even sheathe my rapier to heal it. Nice! Starting to look pretty viable, but I'll need to figure out which class I can afford to lose levels in.
