So after having run three-quarters of the RotRL before with a home group before and finding myself itching to run the game again for my new online group with whom I've been gaming with for a year, I have decided to do something a little different.
My current group is very interested in exploring more of the game than just the 'rails' of a campaign as well as stretching their roleplaying chops so taking that into account when we talked about running through RotRL, I suggested a much slower version of the AP
than what the original campaign allows for.
-The experience track has been adjusted from Fast to Slow.
-Using various aids from here and other places, as well as many of my own ideas, I am fleshing out all of the various NPCs that could be encountered or interacted with. This includes giving more on stage time for interesting characters down the road. (I.E. Lyrie and Orik both have already made an appearance at the Swallowtail Festival. My reasoning being that my Nualia already had them in her employ and sent them both to Sandpoint to see how things went down as well as to provide support to Tsuto if the need arose... otherwise they were to see if there were any possible threats to her plans.)
-The Hinterlands and its surrounds are being fleshed out further. Bounties will be posted at the Sandpoint Barracks for various issues that the town guard can not deal with themselves. (I.E. A rash of undead running around on occasion *cough cough Experiments from Habe's cough cough*
And more things along those lines of thought. I just thought I would see what other people thought of doing the campaign like this? And if interested I can always share my notes and perhaps even one of my player's journals as the game goes on, in case anyone would like to do something similar at some point!
Cheers!

I'm making a comeback to Pathfinder after a several year hiatus myself. Though its looking like a guys weekend twice per year. I'm calling it a Geekend Getaway. :)
That said, I'm running either an enhanced Kingmaker or RotR. With RotR, Im definitely moving to the medium or slow XP track. Have you looked at some of the Pathfinder modules?
1) Dragon's Demand (I'm a fan of Mike Shel's since the Mud Sorcerer's Tomb in Dungeon Magazine) fits well peppered through books one and two. I'm thinking chapter one before getting to Sandpoint adjusting the Kobold cave downward to stay at level one abit longer. The Auction will probably occur around the time of the glassworks fiasco or after Thistletop. I'll probably drop Hunclay's cave and deal with the Dragon in book two or three as a possible side quest.
2) Dawn of the Scarlet Sun fits well in Book 2 when the PCs are in Magnimar taking on the Skinsaw cult. I'm thinking Justice Ironbriar might be head over heels for Avalexi and the Scarlet Son fits as an enforcer of the cults sent after the PCs once Avalexi and Ironbriar realize the PCs are tougher than the average sword for hire.
3) The Harrowing makes for a good 9th level interlude in Turtleback Ferry after the PCs retake Rannick and arrive back at Turtleback. I might have Black Magga close out the events of the Midnight Circus.
4) The Witchwar Legacy is a great fit for the environs of Xin-Shalast. This module will at the least take the place of encounters C and D, putting all of the encounter areas of the Veil of Frozen Tears into the Fen of the Icemists. Maybe I'll have Shathbardok track Ilivorr's failed expedition here and hire the PCs (if possible) into recovering the Torc for him. Alternatively, Shathbardok could be retrieving the Torc for Karzoug (Perhaps Karzoug has plans to control a Demon lord). It changes nothing as far as hiring the PCs except that Shathbardok will want to eliminate the PCs after they recover the Torc.
Hope these ideas provide a spark. :)

After reflecting, Ill skip the Harrowing in favor of my favorite pathfinder module, Realm of the Fellnight Queen (was saving it for Kingmaker). I'll trim the module as with the others of course, and keep it all at level 7 or perhaps 8 max.
The town of Bellis will be replaced by Wartle, and the Verduran Forest will naturally be replaced with the Sanos forest. The only change to RotR as written is meeting Shalelu in Magnimar. I'll have her track down the party before they get to the Grauls, or anywhere in the Sanos forest if they get in over their heads in Fellnight.
The only major work that needs doing in RotR IMHO is the entire city of Xin-Shalast. Its great as is backdrop-wise, but it reminds me of AD&D's D3, Vault of the Drow. Erelhei-Cinlu was a great skeleton but could be so much more with some fleshing out. I'll cross this particular herculean bridge when i get there though, as this campaign played 2 or 3x per year over a marathon weekend will take quite some time. :).

One thing I will say about expanding Xin-Shalast: I had more prepared than I ended up using. With the end in sight, my players were laser-focused on doing whatever was necessary to scale Mhar Massif and take the fight to Karzoug, completely ignoring any plothooks that didn't seem to lead in that direction. Obviously your players may vary.
