The Cryptid Scholar archetype of the Investigator has the following ability:
Intuitive Monster Lore (Ex): A cryptid scholar adds his Wisdom modifier on Knowledge skill checks in addition to his Intelligence modifier when attempting skill checks to identify the abilities and weaknesses of creatures. At 5th level, a cryptid scholar can take 10 on such checks, even when threatened or distracted.
This ability replaces poison lore and poison resistance.
The problem is that Poison Lore and Poison Resistance are not received until 2nd level. So, which of the following should apply?
1) No level is given for the 1st sentence, so that part of the ability is available at 1st level, or
2) Since no abilities are lost until 2nd level, no abilities should be gained until then either.
Option 1 is correct.
Similar to the wording for many classes that gain abilities at 1st level such as a Barbarian's Fast Movement. Archetypes don't always replace a power at the same level it would normally be received such as the Berserker ability for the Viking archetype of Fighter.
