Dueling cape deed: Is it a shield or simply a shield bonus?

Rules Questions

I am interested in use the dueling cape deed with the duelikst prestige class and monk and not sure how the rules interacted.

1 Duelist: is my hand free and is it a shield?

2. Monk: Is it a shield?

As a move action, you can wrap a cape that you're wearing around your arm (removing it if necessary), and treat it as a buckler.

So it give a shield bonus to AC, encumber as a buckler and count as a buckler for what you can and can't do.

BTW: "removing it if necessary" refer to the cape not the arm. :P
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Scarab Sages

Since you treat it as a buckler, it will shut down monk flurry and AC bonus, unless you have unhindering shield.

Does unhindering shield work with monk?

I understand it working for duelist/swashbuckler but do we have any official word for how it interacts with monk?

Scarab Sages

It worksthe special line explicitly says it works with a monk.

Special: A monk with this feat is not considered to be using a shield for the purposes of his AC bonus, fast movement, or flurry of blows.
