Linguistics Trait Bonus - Bonus Language?

Rules Questions

Hey all,

For the Hell's Rebels AP, I am taking a trait that gives you a +1 bonus to Linguistics checks as well as making Linguistics a class skill. However, it does not specify that I learn a bonus language.

I am assuming this means that I do not actually learn a language like I would if I took a rank in Linguistics, but I figured I would check just in case.

That trait isn't giving you a rank in it. It's just a +1 bonus to the skill and it's now a Class Skill. You'd still need to put a rank into it to get a language.

Edit 2: (Or not? Seems we both posted at the same time?)

Correct. ^_^ Only actual ranks in Linguistics grant additional languages known.

You are correct. A rank gives you a bonus, but a bonus does not give you a rank, and only ranks get you languages.

If you're looking to learn a language w/o spending a skill rank there are a couple traits that give you one.

The bonus in the skill would help with deciphering codes or forging written material, but doesn't help you with adding new languages.
