Advice for Encounters and Story?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hey all, I just started GMing a game I wrote while I was in basic and could use some help figuring out where to go with things. It's all set in Golarion and the first 6-ish levels will be based in Varisia.

Main Story:

So the abridged, short-hand version of the main story is that the party was hired to investigate a mine that has stopped sending monthly shipments of ore back to Sandpoint,
they go to investigate and it's overrun with already-dead demons, including one extremely powerful one that is, like the others, already dead. In this mine they find a ritual site that looks like it was both trying to summon something and keep something out at the same time. Fast forward a bit, a wizard who studies ancient everything gets in contact and informs them about a cult that worshipped demons, but they wanted to bring them to the world and keep them alive, so the dead demons are uncharacteristic, which will spark the intrigue that sends the party all around Varisia to eventually find out that an alchemist is attempting to make demon-human hybrids for.. reasons I haven't really decided yet. By the time they make this discovery they should be ~level 6, and I'm thinking of sending them to Cheliax for their next chunk of adventure. Any input for all of that would be greatly appreciated.

Side Quests and Encounters:

Lost Dog: A shop owners missing dog, leads to a tribe of goblins who has been kidnapping and eating pets
Big Game Hunter: A simple enough kill quest, rabid animal scaring/killing livestock
Crazed Shapeshifter: Drug addicted Druid has been going crazy while high and has been wildshaping and causing havoc
Counterfeit Coins: The first couple of times a shopkeep buys from the party, he pays normally, but one time (if the players catch it) he'll use fake, and worthless, coins. Could lead to either a shifty shopkeep, or him being robbed and needing to keep business, so on
Wounded Fox: More of a long-term one, party may encounter a fox (or other creature that they would like in the party) in a trap and severely wounded. Could lead to a mercy killing or a new pet.

Beyond all this, I don't have a huge amount of meat to the side quests I do have planned, and I am at a loss for ideas for more things that could happen on the side.

Any advice or ideas folks could give would be great.

Cheers!
Kane

Edit: Typos

There are some stablished locations in Sandpoint Hinterlands that you can use for side quests, e.g.:

Papuer's Graves: an old Varisian cementary that was also used by Sandpoint settlers before a graveyard was established inside the walls. It was supposed to be protected by a shrine to empyreal lord Ashava, but a thief has robbed the shrine and now the place is overrun by ghouls, the thief is one of them.

The Tors: stony hills with many nooks, caverns and Varisan tombs from before Sandpoint was founded.

Dragon's Punchbowl: a small island inhabited by wyverns, but it was also a home to two black dragons, siblings (one is written to be old, and the other young adult, but you can adjust them to be level-appropriate). The two were careful to never hunt near their home, so that they wouldn't caught attention. Hoevewer recently there was a fight between them, the younger one was wounded and fled to mainland, where he was spotted.

Mosswood: Mosswood is home to the largest tribe of goblins in the area, but it is also a location of what is known as The Spider Stones. Nowadays it's overrun by giant spiders lead by an ettercap, but it used to be a shrine to Gozreh. The PCs can be hired by Hannah Velerin, a cleric of Gozreh in Sandpoint to clear it up.

Shank's Wood: This place is known as a hideout ofan outlaw Vyron "Shank" Jethezme. PCs may look for him to cllect a bounty. Plot twist: some time ago Shank was killed by a faceless stalker, who since then assumed his form.

The Pit: a large, deep and dark circular pit located somewhere in the middle of the Devil's Platter. It is only accessible by flight or through maze-like tunnel under the platter. the tunnels are inhabited by goblins, gremlins, derros and dark folf, and in the deepest reaches there is a shrine of Kabiri, the demon lord of ghouls. The Pit itself is rummored to be a home of Sandpoint Devil.

Regarding the dead demons, there's a monster in the Bestiary called bebilith. it is a predator devoted to hunting demons. Maybe you can use it somehow.
