Rope Dart Killer

Advice

Shadow Lodge

Been noodling around with a PFS-legal Rope Dart build trying to figure out where to take it after level 5. It takes one level of Farstrike Monk for the sheer about of feats and the ranged flurry (which is basically Rapid Shot). I chose rope dart because it means only one weapon to enchant. I would only use the rope dart on targets at 15' or less to avoid any confusion.

I'd take Lore Warden for the extra Skill Points.

I'm guessing I would keep taking Fighter levels (for Weapon Training and Advanced Weapon Training: Focused Weapon). The fighter levels also give me feats to feed the feat-intensive ranged style. I could take some additional Monk levels to where I could get Barkskin via Qiggong.

Honestly I'm open to any thoughts.

This is a bad idea, and you should feel bad.*

From the looks of things, you're not particularly missing the BAB, which would suggest Monk levels would serve you better than Fighter levels.

This is one of those characters I'd start playing just to see where it'll all settle. You have a base build, go play the first 3 levels and see what the playstyle is like. I don't know of anybody who has tried to use the rope dart in PFS due to its complex wording.

I actually have a Rope Dart Monk in PFS. I think she's only level 3 at the moment though. Here's the template I wrote up a while back. Hopefully it helps.

Class – 5 Unchained Monk / 7 Weapon Master
Race – Human

Stats -
Str: 14
Dex: 18 (+2 added)
Con: 12
Int: 12
Wis: 14
Cha: 7
5, 10, 2, 2, 5, -4

1) Monk 1: Bab +1, Deflect Arrows (monk), Point Blank Shot (lvl 1), Precise Shot (Human)
2) Monk 2: Bab +2, Combat Reflexes (monk), Evasion (monk)
3) Monk 3: Bab +3, Deadly Aim (lvl 3)
4) Monk 4: Bab +4, +1 Dex
5) Monk 5: Bab +5, Rapid Shot (lvl 5)
6) Weapon Master 1: Bab +6/+1 Clustered Shots (fighter)
7) Weapon Master 2: Bab +7/+2, Weapon Focus: Rope Dart (lvl 7), Snap Shot (fighter)
8) Weapon Master 3: Bab +8/+3, +1 Dex
9) Weapon Master 4: Bab +9/+4, Improved Snap Shot (lvl 9), Improved Critical: Rope Dart (fighter)
10) Weapon Master 5: Bab +10/+5,
11) Weapon Master 6: Bab +11/+6/+1, Weapon Spec: Rope Dart (lvl 11), Improved Precise Shot (fighter)

ATK bonus at 11th level: +1wfocus, +1pbs, +11bab, +3weapon, +1wmaster, +7dex, -3DAim, -2rapid = +19/+19/+19/+14/+9

DMG bonus at 11th level: +1pbs, +2str, +6DAim, +2wspec, +3weapon, +1wmaster = 1d4 + 15 (x5 CLUSTERED)

Attack and Dmg bonuses may be off since this was written a while back when Unchained Monk first came out. I may have missed some stuff. At 3rd level the character is pretty decent/fun to play as a ranged dps.

First off, like a dum-dum I assumed the UMonk couldn't flurry with ranged monk weapons. That's what I get.

Secondly, did you ever have any issues with using Rapid Shot with Flurry in PFS? The threads I've read seem divided on it.

Now remember, my character is only at level 3 if I remember correctly. Far Strike monk says you can't use Rapid Shot and that the archetype modifies FoB. Unchained Monk states "He takes no penalty for using multiple weapons when making a flurry of blows, but he does not gain any additional attacks beyond what’s already granted by the flurry for doing so. (He can still gain additional attacks from a high base attack bonus, from this ability, and from haste and similar effects)." so you may or may not be able to use Rapid Shot. If you can't then it'll either be a dead feat for Snap Shot and Imp Snap Shot or that will open up 3 feats to use for something else. So take at your own risk.

Essentially the Far Strike monk was created to allow early access for Precise shot and Imp Precise shot along with a few other things...but overall the UMonk is just a better option with hit points, BAB, additional attacks with FoB, and other abilities that complement the melee side of Monk when you're forced into it.

EDIT: With the build I listed I was essentially trying to recreate Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy.
