Newbie starting Mummy's Mask

Hey! I just got Mummy's Mask today. My first time with PACG. Theres a lot to absorb; pointing me towards any new player instruction would be appreciated.

I'm playing the abbreviated intro and have a question on closing the Precious Mine. The text to close says 'Succeed at Strength or Melee check". Can a weapon be used for this if the text on the weapon says "For combat check add "? I'm guessing no.


You guessed right... but you should never guess.
Major golden rule: cards do what they say and cards don't do what thry don't say.
So if a weapon helps a combat check, it doesn't help for another kind of check. The fact that the weapon allows you to use a melee skill doesn't mean it can be used for a melee check. A crowbar on the opposite can help a strength check if I remember well.


OK, it is dated, so it could possibly steer you incorrectly regarding rules subtly changed in the last two years: but there is a guide on BGG for new players, written by the extremely helpful Hawkmoon269. (Paizo posters know, if you've never been ninja'd by Hawkmoon, you haven't posted very often.)


I really do need to find the time to finish the updated version I was working on.

Another newbie question (or two)

Should this be a new thread (asking about drawing from box)? Or just keep the beginner stuff together?

My question is about "draw 1 item from the box'.
Is that a random draw from all items in the box? Just basic items or all that has been opened so far? I also have the character add on pack.


"Draw" from the box is always random, unless told otherwise. (This is in the rulebook.)

The box should only have cards up to and including your current adventure. You draw from this set -- you don't restrict yourself to Basic (unless you were specifically instructed to do that).

To further clarify:

When you start a new game, the only cards in the box should have the set indicators B or C (or P cards with an Owner trait matching one of the characters you are playing). Then, when you begin Adventure 1, you mix in all of the 1 cards, and any other P cards you have. When you begin Adventure 2, you mix in all of the 2 cards. When you begin Adventure 3, you mix in all of the 3 cards, and so on. You never remove cards from the box when you begin a new adventure, just add them in with all the rest. You remove cards during play starting with Adventure 3 according to the rules on the Adventure Path card.

As such, if you're playing a B scenario, the only items in the box you'd have will have the B or C set indicators. You draw one of those items at random.

As for new thread vs continuing this one, up to you. Easy questions can go together, but anything particularly tricky probably deserves its own thread.
