Alchemists don't cast spells. The only reason they can use spell completion/spell trigger items at all is the 7th paragraph, 2nd sentence, of their alchemy class ability:
An alchemist can utilize spell-trigger items if the spell appears on his formulae list, but not spell-completion items (unless he uses Use Magic Device to do so).
If the rules for alchemist formulae known are anything like the rules for spells known, then the formulae book/spell book is basically considered your formulae known/spells known list 99% of the time. (The distinction only seems to matter when you lose the spellbook; the spells remain on your spells known list even though you can't cast them without your spellbook.)

Quote:Remote Consciousness: At 10th level, a psychonaut adds dream, lesser astral projection, nightmare, plane shift, sending, and telepathic bond to his formula book as 4th-level extracts (a plane shift extract does not require a focus component). This ability replaces poison immunity.
Yes, I know the Psychonaut adds them. But what is the point? He will never be able to use either as an extract, since they target someone else.
Speak with Dead on the Psychonaut got specifically called out that it worked differently, why were the other target someone else spells not called out?
The text makes it clear that you can use Scrying and Clairaudience as extracts, but not that you can use others as extracts. Was that oversite, or are formula like Nightmare just there so alchemists can use spell trigger items without UMD.

I would assume they are meant to be usable.
