I am designing a spell, and the internal logic behind it suggests it would only effect a mammal. Doesn't matter if it is an animal, humaniod, monstourus humanoind or whatever. But there is no catagory that is only mammals. How would, if you were writing a spell, specify a catagory that is mammal only?

Adding a since descriptive sentence is good. Also if the spell only affects something that mammals have (i.e. mammary gland) then further explanation may be unnecessary. (For example, an Enhance Lactation spell wouldn't affect reptiles since they don't lactate. Of course if they did then it would, but they don't so it doesn't.)

I agree with relativemass. I believe a better approach would involve making it obvious in flavor that the spell would only work on mammals. It all depends on what the spell does.
To use relativemass's example, saying an enhance lactation only works on mammals would unintentionally prevent the spell from working on merfolk, harpies, and other creatures that produce milk from mammary glands, but would technically not be considered mammals.
This is why the game's creature type system doesn't really use real world classifications. Fantasy creatures and magic throws evolutionary classification out the window.

The OP apparently put this out there intending to edit it. Then IRL had other commitments. Hopefully, they will check back this coming week.
If a spell affects only mammalian breasts like increased lactation or Dcup, it will affect male animals and some vermin. StrawRat is a male norway rat, and both a vermin and mammal. He would also be affected by a fever spell. All warm blooded creatures can run a fever. His filth fever would not be cured by a fever spell.
