The Magical Child's Transformation, and a Kitsune's Shape Change

Rules Questions

There's a possibility that occurred to me with the Vigilante Archetype of the Magical Child if it was possessed by a Kitsune, in that as a Vigilante one could likely make it so the Kitsune's Social Identity was one form (say, the human form), and its Vigilante Identity the other forms (Kitsune and Fox).

While one could easily get away with this in the usual Archetype so long as you avoid the Quick Change talent, things get confusing once you start having to deal with both the Transformation Sequence and the Kitsune Shapechanges taking a standard action each.

So baring some creative use of disguises, or associating two separate disguises of the human form with their respective identities; there's one question on my mind...

Do these two specific changes have to be separate actions? Or can they be combined into one action? Given that other talents like Many Guise allow magic to be used as part of the disguise.

To give a specific example of when this might be important to know, let's say that a 1 round obscuration effect was used by another player (or an ally), and they had that round to transform, grab a thing, and then jump out the window... All before anyone can see who just changed, or what their human form looks like.

... This is also somewhat important, since one prototype of this idea I'm working with is coming up on the limits of feats/talents that can be used for the sake of Tails, variant multiclassing, and shapeshifting feats.

By RAW, Sailor Mo- I mean Magical Child's transformation and the kitsune's transformation are indeed separate, but I can see a DM ruling it in your favor for that, because it's an interesting way to roleplay the character.

However, when I made a kitsune warlock, I had decided to make full use of having what essentially amounted to 4 identities, with layers of separation. So I could, for example, have my vigilante fox form running around doing vigilante things, then turn a corner and switch to "unassuming human adventurer" form. If those two are discovered to be the same, even then I've still protected my "human noble" and "exotic kitsune commoner" counterparts. If I took fox form, technically the rules might support a vigilante fox and a social fox being separate, but I wouldn't try to push that past a GM, and see no roleplay advantage anyway.

This character, of course, had max ranks in disguise just to ensure the numbers matched the Roleplay, but it was definitely a fun character.

Liberty's Edge

"Changing identities is more than just changing outfits and clothing (although that is certainly a part of it); the process often also involves applying make-up, altering his hair, and adjusting other personal effects. Furthermore, the change is as much a state of mind as of body, so items such as a hat of disguise and similar spells and effects that change the user's appearance do not reduce the time required to change identities."

This implies that your time to change identities remains the same whether you are just changing your clothes and putting on a pair of spectacles (e.g. Clark Kent), applying a complex mundane disguise (e.g. Mission Impossible), or 'magically' transforming (e.g. Bruce Banner).

Thus, I would allow both to be performed simultaneously and take the greater of the 'change identity time' and the 'disguise time'... you might get in to one or the other faster, but you aren't 'done' until you have completed both. In this case that would just mean one standard action during which both your physical transformation and the magical child 'light show' are taking place.

BTW, you might want to consider having your vigilante identity be the human form. If there is an infamous kitsune/fox vigilante then anyone familiar with kitsune is going to be looking for their human form. An infamous human form vigilante on the other hand is generally going to be assumed to be... human. Leading to people trying to unmask their human social form... which doesn't exist.
