Looking for GM to pick up dropped solo game: Willing to GM in return

Recruitment

Some time ago, I started a solo game, where I played a bronze dragon fighting the hordes of the Worldwound--which is to say, he's going through the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path. I was enjoying myself, and the GM seemed to be, too... but then, just over a month ago, the GM disappeared from the Paizo forums, as far as I can tell.

While I can understand being busy around this time of year, I haven't even seen a response to the PM I sent, so I'm now in the market for a new GM for this campaign. In return, I'm willing to GM just about anything I have or can adapt a module for. I can stretch modules pretty far, so don't consider that too much of a hindrance. I do love GMing unusual games, so if there's a crazy idea you've always wanted to play, this may be your chance! It wouldn't have to be a solo game, either.

So, what I'd like to know from potential GM's is the following:
*Do you have Wrath of the Righteous? It's going to be... rather hard to GM if you don't.
*Would you be willing to go somewhat 'off the rails' for the AP? I'm playing an unusual character, and I know there are some elements of the AP that are unpopular, so I'd like it if you're flexible.
*Do you have In the Company of Dragons? This 3rd-party PDF contains the rules I'm using for building my character. Part of the rules are on the d20pfsrd, so it's workable if you don't have it, but it would make it easier.
*What would you like me to GM? All else being equal, I'll pick someone whose request is something I think I can do well.

I'll run this until I either see a submission I like or it becomes clear no one is interested in this trade.

Bump for the evening crowd.

Liberty's Edge

Tempted. Not sure I should add something to my plate. I've had bad luck recently with not being able to keep GMing stuff I started. I didn't disappear without warning -- one game was handed off to another GM who finished it, and the other game had the original GM return as I was admitting to the players I couldn't keep up.

So, I won't just disappear on you, in any event!

I do have In the Company of Dragons, and think it's cool. I also have all of Wrath of the Righteous. You're soloing this? Have you bumped the power level of your dragon? Have you thought about how Mythic will apply? I've looked through ITCoD, and have the impression that the dragons are supposed to be more or less balanced with regular characters of the same level; if this is the case, then a single character might have some trouble surviving-- unless you have NPC friends.

How far into the game are you?

Here are three wacky game ideas I'd love to play:

  • Something that leans heavily on the "Downtime" rules from Ultimate Campaign. I'd start with something like a 5th level character, and would build a business somewhere. Time would elapse, allow me to continue building the business and do all the monthly stuff, but there would also be episodes. This would, of course, require some creativity on your part, as it's not a prewritten module.

  • Same thing, grander scale. Use the Kingdom Building rules from Ultimate Campaign (perhaps supplemented by some rules from the 3pp Ultimate Rulership). Build a kingdom. Stuff happens. It gets epic. I've run the first three books of Kingmaker before. (The game ended when I moved away, alas.) We could base it on that, even set it in the River Kingdoms. Alternatively, we could pick another spot (e.g. something deep in the dangerous jungle of the Mwangi Expanse).

  • The Test of the Starstone.... On Myth-Weavers, there was recruitment for a game where the characters were all very old, very high-level adventurers, decrepit, about to die, deciding to take one last chance at the biggest prize of all. Sounded really cool. The game died before it started; as is the case with too many PbP games, the GM finished recruitment, and then we never heard from him again. I like the idea of trying to take somebody through the Test of the Starstone. Of course, nobody quite knows just what that test is. This might be a character who is already high-level and Mythic, and probably has the Leadership feat with followers and such already. (The "Divine Source" universal Mythic Path ability might be appropriate.)

Oooo, interesting! Those all sound cool! I'm just afraid I wouldn't have the time to do them justice. I'd lean more towards the Kingdom Building one, though that might just be due to my love of 4X games. A lizardfolk nation might be interesting to do... I'll have to think about it.

My dragon was a gestalt Draconic Exemplar/Warpriest with one extra level, so significantly above the normal power curve. Things still got pretty tense in most of the battles he'd been in, though.

I'd only gotten as far as the crazy wizard dwarf, so not even out of the Kenabres underground yet.

Liberty's Edge

I've never played or run Gestalt; I know that it's a "combine two classes" sort of thing, but is there more to it than that? Is it "officially" written up somewhere?

The only one I know of is from 3.5, but that's basically it--you get the class features of both classes, and for things like saves, skill points, attack bonus, and hit points, you get the best of the two classes. It works well for giving a solo character more of the abilities of a full party--and since my dragon will eventually get too large to fit into buildings properly, it seemed like a good idea to have some non-dragon class abilities to fall back on if he needs to assume a humanoid form for part of an adventure.

Liberty's Edge

Can you give me a pointer to the Campaign thread so I can see how things are going?

Here you go!

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, you really didn't get all that far in. Pity, because the GM was a good writer who did interesting things with the NPCs.

If you're willing, I'd be happy to try taking this over. I'll want to read through it again to figure out just how the three following NPCs feel about you... although you seem to be getting along with them pretty well overall.

Yeah, I was quite pleased with how it was going. I was quite sad to find they'd disappeared from the forums.

I think he'd been playing the NPC's as less fractious than the module calls for. I appreciate it, since... well, I'm basically playing a baby dragon. He's not exactly leadership material, given his youth... at least, not yet. I anticipate that changing over the course of the first couple of modules. Not mention, he is a baby dragon, who has, in sight of the NPC's, single-handedly... errr, single-clawedly? Anyway, he's killed a bunch of dangerous things for them, so it makes sense they'd want to be friends with him. Though we'll have to see how they feel after his latest stunt here.

For what I'd be running in return... the more I think about it, the more fond I am of the idea of forming a lizardfolk nation in the Sodden Lands/Mwangi Expanse. Perhaps you could be forming a coalition to resist the aggression of the Terwa Lords... or perhaps you could be one of the Terwa Lords yourself, if you'd like. Speaking of which, would you want to do this solo or with some other players? I could swing it either way.

Liberty's Edge

Let's go with resistance to the Terwa lords. Perhaps starting on the west edge of the jungle northwest of Nantambu. The lizard chieftan (i.e. my PC) founding the kingdom believes that things can be learned from the human settlers (although calling Nantambu settlers is odd, as that city has been there for many millenia), and that lizardfolk need not be in constant conflict with them. While the lizardfolk will always be in tune with the jungle (or swamp, or whatever), they too could benefit from some of the infrastructure of civilization. Hence, kingdom building....

As for other folk: I could do this solo, but it might be fun to have some other folk involved. I know of one or two people we might invite. Do you have particular people you've enjoyed PbPing with?

Hmmmm... I'll have to think on that.

I'm always keen on small games - so if you'd like to run one of these other ideas with someone else, or have someone else join in this one I'd be keen to join in! :)

(Hope you don't mind me chipping in!)

and just to prove that I have some really ridiculous ideas... I've always wanted to play a Vampire - LE Vampire and CG dragon united against the CE demon threat would be awesome... but it seems you're moving away from that idea.

Well, the deal here is that if you want me to run something for you, you need to run something for me. Or get involved in what I'm going to run for rknop in return for him taking over GMing for my dragon.

If you are wanting a couple of other players, rknop, I was thinking I could volunteer my brother. He hasn't played here on Paizo much, but he's had plenty of experience outside of Paizo.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, I think the plan is to keep the WotR dragon as a solo game.

Re: the Lizard Kingdom of the Mwangi Jungle (and/or Sodden Lands), if your brother is good at PbP and you play well with him, that could work. From reading what you and the other GM were doing on your WotR game, I do like your PbP style.

If you're ready, I'll jump in and start up the WotR narrative again in the next couple of days.

Yeah, if you want to go ahead and go through the process to get the campaign transferred to your ownership, now would be a good time. We can start playing whenever!

I'll talk with my brother. I'm sure he'd be up for it. Hmmm... it may be about to the point that I should start a campaign discussion thread for it, for keeping all of these details with the campaign itself.

Okay, I created a discussion thread for the lizardfolk kingdom-building game. I've already got a bunch more questions there for building the campaign, so head on over, rknop!
