Cool background for Red Destiny

I am looking to add deeper story to the sword Red Destiny ( find in room C18 of the AP : In search of Sanity ).

Two of my PC look to play Paladin and I think to change the sword for a more appropriate weapon, such as longsword or greatsword.

Maybe Red Destiny can come from the time of the crusade against The Whispering Tyrant??

I've considered something like this myself.
It would be fun to see the weapon "awaken" over time. It would allow me to tailor it to the weilder, and add to the plot.

Mine is going to be called The Red Thread of Destiny.
I plan to tie it with some NPC, probably one of the hyenas in book 4, but I still want to check book 5 and 6.

I gave the beatiuful scabbard a magical ability too. It continuously casts Mending on the sword. I like to give small magic ability to some magic items. Cantrips are a good example. Maybe your boots of haste do not sink in the snow. Maybe your magical bow allow you to know where's the north. Maybe your elvenkind cloak allow you to track goblins (but nothing else). Your ring of protection might glow in the dark. Etc

I have in mind that the sword was used during the Shinning Crusade by a fallen (dead) Paladin from Taldor. Was considering it being later being taken up by a vampire of some sort.

I have a occultist in the party using it, so a back story will evolve.

You could do some really cool stuff with the sword. Particularly in books 3 and 4.
