So a friend and I were just talking about a character idea I had for a Life Spirit shaman when I noticed Spirit Warden and thought to myself, "Well, my guy does hate spirits quite a bit due to being LG and seeing undead as being an affront to the cycle of reincarnation" and decided to look at it further. And that is when I noticed Rebuke Undead, which works like Channel Positive Energy but only damages undead. My question is how does Rebuke Undead work with feats like Alignment Channel and Extra Channel (as in can I use Alignment Channel with Rebuke Undead and does Extra Channel affect either channel or both)?
It's certainly a bit of a gray area. Most channel energy-esque abilities say that while feats like Extra Channel are legal and stack, feats like Alignment Channel and Elemental Channel do not work with channel energy-type abilities that restrict what you can affect.
1. Likely no to Alignment Channel working with Rebuke Undead (But it would work with Life Spirit's normal channel ability.)
2. You would likely have to choose which channel ability Extra Channel would affect, since it would not affect both and you can only take it once. GM discretion can go either way on this one, though.
Ah, good to know. I must admit it would be amusing though to be able to use Rebuke Undead on Evil Outsiders, but oh well.
Since this thread is already here I might as well ask another question involving a faux-channel ability. The Purifer oracle archetype gives you a essentially a channel ability to hurt evil outsiders. My question is would it progress if I went into the Holy Vindicator (taking the Life Mystery to make sure I have all the prereqs) or would it cease to progress after I went into the PrC?
