Could a 5th level+ Wizard write an entire book in Explosive Runes? Could they write their spellbook in Explosive Runes?
Could a Wizard instruct someone before casting Explosive runes, so they could avoid getting Explosive Rune-d from runes created at a later date, even if the Wizard does not communicate what he marks with runes?

You may select any number of creatures you know as being immune to triggering the runes, even if they weren't present for the casting.
However, attaching it to your spellbook is generally a horrible idea. The object the runes are on take full damage, so the spell will likely destroy or severely damage the book itself, thus forcing you to find and scribe all new spells into a new spellbook. Using a decoy book is probably more ideal, with the original stowed in an extradimensional space.

I was thinking more along the lines of cultist-style NPC Wizards. As a PC, it's a horrible idea, but for a Wizard with a limited, trusted community and a large hatred for people who don't share your ideals, it could be a reasonable choice. Basically - if they are an ally, they are protected when they read the book. If they aren't, then they should die.
Maybe also a decent protection for a spy's codebook.
