Cohort leadership question

Does the leadership feat allow for 1 cohort of the posted level or several equaling the posted level. Meaning with a leadership score of 5 the cohort level is posted as 3rd does that allow for one 3rd level cohort or can I have three 1st level cohorts?

Nothing in the rules for the Leadership feat lets you have more than one cohort.

The basic assumption is a single cohort, however since you're playing in a home game, consider pointing your GM at Ultimate Charisma by Everyman Gaming (it's on the Rogue Genius Games product list for complex reasons).
