Monstrous mounts and other mounts for cavaliers and roughriders

Kingmaker

Just curious on what monstrous mounts and unique animals would be appropriate for cavaliers and roughriders and any other class that would use a mount for this campaign (besides riding dogs, wolves, and horses).

I'm a player so please be careful with spoilers.

The bestiary in the 1st book of the campaign has the stats to use an elk as an animal companion. It fits some of the themes pretty well, especially if the cavalier has some kind of natural focus (a Nature deity or something like that).

Cool.

What about a catfolk cavalier? What sort of big cats like in the Stolen Lands? I'm not sure about lions (well except for mountain lions) and tigers would be a stretch, and then there are lynxes and bobcats but they're too small for someone to ride on unless you're a halfling or gnome.

Would owlbears be okay or unlikely?

Owlbear as a mount would be very odd, partially because bipedal. Run into an issue as well in that they are magical beasts and not a vanilla animal.

If you have enough catfolk that they are looking for a large group then importing in lion or tigers would make sense. With the terrain up here as well as the weather, tigers would fit better. Trick on an animal like that is if you have a stable of them, you have issues feeding the things.
