Q: Do Cohorts affect your handsize?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

I'm reading the new rule book and it says that in the beginning of the game I draw cards for my hand, then add any cohort listed to my hand.

However, if I end my turn without using any cards then I now have too many cards. Do I have to discard a card during the Hand Reset phase?

It depends.

If the cohort says to Display it (next to your deck), then no. Like other cards that stay Displayed, they are no longer in your hand. Witch Cohorts are like this.

However, if they are Displayed to use their power like most Cohorts (like Alain's Donahan), they become part of your hand and, yes, you would need to discard down to your hand size if you are above it including the Cohort.

Basic obvious rule : if a card is in your hand, it affects your hand size. If it is elsewhere (displayed, discarded, put next to a charcater/location/scenario...) it doesn't. Cohorts follow that rule like any other cards.

True. (But even I got confused initially about how Cohorts were Displayed when Wrath of the Righteous came out. Some of them are displayed all the time and some are displayed just when you want to use their powers then go back to your hand.)
