Strix Airborne Ambusher?

Advice

So I thought I'd try to make a Strix Fighter. I just need some suggestions, it seems pretty simple.

I want to use a combo of Flyby Attack and Vital Strike. That's really all the investment I need so I have a lot of freedom for this.

STR-based, because I will have medium armor and I was considering Skill Focus (Fly) because Flying will be really important; but i don't want to worry about DEX. So I guess it looks a bit like this.

Stats:

  • STR: 17
  • DEX: 10
  • CON: 14
  • INT: 13
  • WIS: 10
  • CHA: 9
(I like Skill points, I'll die making that choice)

Feats:

1- Skill Focus (Fly) & Iron Will (Low WIS)
2- Flyby Attack
3- Power Attack
4- Furious Focus
5- Weapon Focus (Greatsword)
6- Vital Strike

How does that look? Pretty simple, just flying around smacking people with a two-handed weapon. It's pretty basic so if I'm boxed in I can just smack people regularly. Thoughts? I'm considering for PFS so clearly I need to plan some more.

Flyby Attack + Felling Smash + Greater Trip is glorious.

If I was going for a Flyby Attack build, I'd be tempted to do a free-hand style with things like Crane Style, Mobility and Stylish Riposte that turned enemy AoO's into relentless counterattacks (Dodge, Crane Chain and Stylish Riposte means +9AC against AoO's an a counterattack on any miss).

For a flying character in general, Amateur Swashbuckler: Dodging Panache is an alternative to Flyby Attack that lets you consistently retreat into the sky and then return with a 5-step. Combined with counterattacks and such, it would be pretty dominating.

As usual with Fighter (and especially a Fighter that doesn't have access to Advanced Weapon Training), there are plenty of multiclass options to expand the character.

I actually like the idea of Flyby Attack + Felling Smash + Greater Trip. I would probably then switch over to Lore Warden. I can't get Flyby Attack as a bonus feat so I'd just take it at Level 1 or something. Scythes start to look pretty good actually, as high damage trip weapons. And if I land a crit...

As for the whole Crane Style tricks, not for me. That would probably be some sort of Monk Strix, an interesting concept but not one that works here. I'm sure you feel inspired however.

Hold on a moment... I don't think Strix are legal for play in PFS.

The only possible character with legal Flyby Attack that comes to mind is an Eagle Shaman Druid, which can take FBA at level 9. On the up-side, Eagle Shaman can ignore Wild Shape and instead get Divine Favor from the Nobility Domain while using their Totem Transformation to fly (you can stock up on Divine Favor uses in several ways). So basically they can be a battle Cleric type character with Divine Favor and Fate's Favored, but with Druid magic like Barkskin backing it up and the ability to fly by level 5.
