Planar Focus and YOU (or your animal companion)

Rules Questions

I'm a little surprised it isn't mentioned anywhere, and that I have to ask this question at all. Can a Hunter with Planar Focus apply one of the Planar Aspects to his Animal Companion?

And as a related question: what alignment -is- an animal companion? Neutral? Same as the master's?

Animal Focus (Su): At 1st level, a hunter can apply the aspect of an animal to herself as a swift action.

The hunter can also apply one of these aspects to her animal companion.

When you use your animal focus class feature, you can choose any of the following new aspects unless they conflict with your alignment.

Yes, if you can apply planar focus to yourself then you can apply it to your animal companion. Seems pretty straightforward.

Animal Companions are Neutral, they are still animals. Arguably, if their intelligence increases then their alignment can change due to their actions.

Alignment, I feel, requires sentience. Animals, animal companions included, are not intelligent enough to understand things like "right" and "wrong". There was a blog to this degree by Paizo, that clarified that even if it gains bonuses to Intelligence, it is still, at its core, an animal, a beast.

To gain sentience, and therefore be able to develop a conscience and alignment, requires the Awaken spell.
