King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Trailer

on one hand it is definitely fantastic. On the other hand...did we need a "streetsmart" Arthur? Is that the only interpretation Guy Ritchie can provide for characters from literature?

I am incredibly confused why the Camelot mythos is so damn hard to adapt for movies. The characters are well known to audiences, there is an infinite amount of material to work from, it has iconic villains and dramatic twists, and plenty of potential for awesome battles. And it's large enough that you could easily produce multiple trilogies off the material. Yet either people chuck out most of the story to produce a streamline narrative that is name only, or they go a hyper-realistic route and remove all the magic.

On another note, at least Littlefinger plays a character named "Goosefat Bill".

Jawa,

I'm on the fence since my favorite Arthurian interpretation is T.H. White's stuff, not necessarily Morte' Da'Arthur.

Sons of Camelot.

What about it Captain?

It's hard to say really, the trailer is kind of messy, But I'm hopeful. :-)

Are you saying this is ANOTHER Arthurian Legend film?

Or you talking about this movie, captain?

Er... this movie. i was making a Sons of Anarchy analogy, on account of it having Jax Teller in it.

edit: I've rematched the trailer, and it's less chaotic after multiple viewings.

Looks fun.

Captain.

AH! Now I get it. Sorry I was lost before.

I hate to see what Jax King Arthur will do to Lancelot when he finds out about the cuckolding. :-)

No idea Captain, but again, not sure I'll see this movie.

Liberty's Edge

It looks like it could be fun. Maybe something on par with the Merlin made for TV movie.

I'd be shocked if it surpasses Excalibur, though.

Scarab Sages

This looks horrible, honestly.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Similar in feeling as Jawa mentions.
The presentation looks interesting, and the idea of a reluctant, bedraggled Arthur harkens back to the Sword in the Stone lore in a neat way. Also, a callback to the importance of Excalibur is cool. But, yeah, I could do without the Guy Ritchie "wink, wink" monologues that go 4th wall at times.

While I can understand that some Arthurian mythos is considered too politically incorrect to be done, it does seem like any modern take about it circles back to either the very beginning or the near end of Camelot.

Liberty's Edge

You guys do not know what you miss for not having Kaamelott available in English
:-))

This looks kinda fun but kind a dumb as well. I can credti them for going straight in to the fantasy aspects rather than trying to tell "realistic" Arthurian story. THis has some of the same feeling as Excalibur, though I doubt this will be as good as that was.

That was sort of my first thought. Not so sure I will see this in the theater. More likely than not, I won't.

I might rent this when it comes out on DVD...

Arch,

You do realize my middle name is Blaine...and thus TBS.

Sovereign Court

Ok, not seeing this thing. It looks absolutely stupid.

That...was not good.

Charlie Hunnan sounded more Jax Teller than King Arthur, which makes zero since, since the dude is British. Huh?

Hama,

Like I said, I'm renting this.

I'll wait until i see more. :-)

Well I don't need to see more Captain. Merely just rent for like 10 minutes, if I don't like it, it's going back.

Budget cinemas exist for a reason. And i'd like to see more then one trailer before outright dismissing it.

I don't expect it to be a cinematic masterpiece by any means, but if i can sit in A/C for a couple hours on a hot summer day for three bucks and be entertained while i eat smuggled in Milk Duds, then i consider that a win. :-)

I get it captain but for me if I'm sitting anywhere it in front of my 40 inch flat screen with the dog lying next to me on the couch.

Almost exactly the reason why I was originally going to see new Star Trek movie. Then I heard it was good and that factored in.

Why are there elephants, and why are they oversized?

Well they need to give Charlie Hunnam some reason to jump into a giant robot in this movie...

MMCJawa,

I think you mean into a Wickerman...

I find this movie mildly interesting. Street-smart Arthur? Meh.
There is another fantasy movie nearing release I am much more interested in...The Great Wall. Love the simple premise in re-purposing the reason for the Wall. Also like Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe. Not very familiar with the cast of Legend of the Sword...

I don't know if he's supposed to be street smart King Arthur, so much as Jax Teller King Arthur. :-)

I love cheesy movies so I'll check this out. Loved the Roman one.

It sucks. Horribly so.
