when i first saw harsk in the pathfinder core rulebook, i thought, "hmmm, that's odd. you don't see a dwarf ranger every day."

some time later, "well, that picture is kinda cool. he certainly looks ready for anything. crossbow, dagger, battle axe... small pouch, large pouch... good grief, how many belts does he have? bedroll... a tea kettle?? jeez, harsk has everything!"

even later, "well, his race and class abilities seem to work well together... defensive training and hatred plus favored enemy..."

later still, "animal companion could act as a mount... like... a wolf? a dwarf ranger riding a wolf??"

i think i just had a nerdgasm.

Unfortunately, dwarves are medium and cannot easily ride wolves. Also, he has a badger.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I played a dwarf ranger once in 3.0 or 3.5. Dipped into fighter, then went all fightery. He did dwarven waraxe and throwing axe two-weapon fighting. Sometimes he tried dual wielding dwarven waraxes, but the -4/-4 made a lot of wind. Eventually just did board-and-axe in full plate and ignored his ranger combat style.

But he tried to keep up with the swashbuckler, which was hilarious. Because slow speed and full plate make it hard to swing on chandeliers. At least he was tough enough to survive his mishaps. And smart enough to do some tricksy things, like lassoing a BBEG with a rope chained to an anvil, an anvil on the edge of a cliff....

Not immediately. Wolves eventually get big.
