Cloying Shades and Shift

Rules Questions

There's a rogue talent from Player Companion: Blood of Shadows that lets you entangle people when arriving with dimension door.

When a rogue with this talent uses dimension door as a spell or spell-like ability, including the abundant step or shadow jump class feature

And there's an arcane school power in the Teleportation sub-school that gives you an ability that works as dimension door.

Shift wrote:
Shift (Su): At 1st level, you can teleport to a nearby space as a swift action as if using dimension door.

Do these work together?

I suspect a strict reading of the rules answers answers it with ano, since Coying Shades require Dimension door as a spell or spell-like ability, while Shift is a supernatural ability which works as dimension door. But I might as well ask.

Necro-threading a bit here since I also wanted to ask the very same question. By RAW it clearly does not work, but the Shadow Jump that is listed as prequisitive is also a SU ability much like the Shift.

I think the best answer here is "expect table variation." The word "including" is open-ended to allow for other supernatural abilities that emulate dimension door, but I think it would vary between GMs as to whether or not they would allow those that are not explicitly listed, especially as Shift was printed way before Cloying Shades. My personal opinion is that it'd work, but your mileage may vary. If this is for PFS, it'd probably be best to ask for an FAQ or campaign clarification or just avoid the grey area.

It should work fine, in general 'as if' abilities should be treated the same as the ability it mimics.

There are exceptions, but I don't see any reason to treat this as one of them.
