Rise of the Runelords

Grand Lodge

So, started my campaign for Rise of the Runelords, and we had our first session today.

Party consists of:

Cackle Stone - Gnoll Sacred Shield Paladin of Torag 1
Vincenzo Patchouli - Ratfolk Grenadier Alchemist 1
Antonio Patchouli - Ratfolk Waylayer Rogue 1
Isaac - Elf Wizard 1
Yume - Tengue Gunslinger 1

Most of the players made characters from the Varisian area, except the Gnoll Paladin who is from Irrisen.

Taking a page out of some of the other threads like this, I am allowing my players a reroll once per session if they post journals in character in this thread after each session.

Character creation was 20 pt buy with 3 traits, two regular and one campaign trait.

Started off on the morning of the Swallowtail Festival, with the PCs already in town.

Played a wheelbarrow game I found on here, and the fishing game from the same source, wheelbarrow game was interesting with some of the turns being hard to get past. Fishing game gave out a +1 weapon to a couple players who rolled really high on the d% roll.

1st fight against the goblins was easy as it should be, though it got harder as the fights moved on to the next two encounters, with a few of them being low in health and one being knocked unconsious during die dog die.

After the fights, I had the Father Zantus heal the players, and they met some of the npcs in town. Foxglove ended up focusing on the gunslinger due to being female, and also doing the most damage.

Some of them took Ameiko up on staying at the Rusty Dragon, though the two cousin ratfolk have a grandmother who lives in sandpoint, and they are in hiding from folks in Magnimar that are searching for them.

Next fight with the skeletons went a little long, due to a few rounds in a row of neither them nor I being able to hit, until the Gunslinger brought the last skeleton down.

Shayliss was able to lure the Gnoll Paladin to the shop, but he stuck to his convictions and did nothing to her, but rolled low on his diplomacy to simmer Van down. After a couple ineffectual attacks, the paladin left the shop.

Next, moved on to the boar hunt, which I did not run the fight, just had Foxglove talk to Yume to try to get on her goodside, though it of course didn't really work, but his obsession is growing. They decided to donate the boars they killed to the townsfolk, which endeared them to them some more, and further cementing them as heroes in Sandpoint

After being approached by the halfling bar maid, and finding out that Ameiko went to meet her brother, made their way to the Glassworks.

Once inside, they immediately found the room with the goblins, and started to battle them, using grease to cause some of them to fall. Isaac had multiple color spray spells prepared, and took out 3 of the goblins, with Yume and Cackle taking out more, with a couple being killed by Antonio and Vincenzo. One ran and called up Tsuto, who came and attacked the party. Due to low rolls on my point, he didn't do a whole lot of damage, doing only 2 or 3 at a time.

His hp was plinked away by alchemist splash damage, and Yume eventually brought him down due to hp damage and nonlethal damage.

Overall, it was a fun start, or at least I think so, and i look forward to our next session in two weeks.

Ey oh, Vinny here. Let me tell you about this little town of Sandpoint eh? This town is so run down that even goblins want to live here. So get this. My cousin and I come to this dump to check on our 'ol granny and bring her some money, when all of a sudden this carnival started happening. So of course Toni and I scoped it out looking to get an extra coin or two from some chumps, when we get attacked my some goons. Of course we lay then down with ease when these other guys start trying to take the glory. It's all okay with me, means less of a wrap on us. A few things happen while we take care of granny, when we get told to go to this glass shop. I use this as an opportunity to find a new piece for my Sweetleaf operation back home, only to find it trash and broken by those same goons. Oh man did we put the hurt on them for breaking all the goods.

This is Toni Tailblade and you's said it Vinny. What a mess they's made in dat glass shops! But them goblins was chumps. It's a good thing we founds something to does in sandpoint keeps us busy and what not and out of Magnimar for a while. Seeing 'ol granny is always a pleasure. Them cheese cannolis Yumm!! And dat food at the carnival, also Yumm!! I thought I wouldn't walk for a week I was so fulls.

By the ways, Vinny, how much coin did we's gets from them town chumps? I would love me a shinny new chain shirt.

Yeah Toni, we got some pretty sweet digs off those chumps. So after I got to counting it all we found a couple potions, some weird goblin junk, a nice bow off that one human, and a ring that makes your fur harder! It's only worth a couple hundred though. If we really want to be the top claw in the town, we need to find a way to make some gold! It's like Uncle Pauli used to say," gold and cheese are the same color for a reason".

Living in the forests means you always have furs to trade during the yearly festival. Upon arrival I played in some games. Before I could meet my usual trader goblins attacked. Trying to clean up loose ends got me trapped in some kind of family spat. I did get a new Rifle for my troubles though.
Yume.

haha what a fun read, thanks for posting !

Scarab Sages

What magnificent wonder could this be! It appears to be some sort of self-writing multi-path communications scroll. I've never seen anything like this in all of my travels, such a fantastic adaptation of science and magic shall be toasted with the finest dark roast coffee and studied at a later time. However for the moment I do deem it Necessary to address the point of this perplexing parchment which is of course to recount the heroic and fearsome events that took place in Sandpoint.

To that end I should preface that my journey is one of intellectual enlightenment and curiosity. I seek to know all I can and sample worldly brews of coffee along the way. This is what led me to Sandpoint, not the coffee, but rather the rumors of a grand cultural festival, the swallowtail festival, naturally I was intrigued.

I was delighted to find the festivities thriving, burgeoning, and exuberant. I even had the pleasure of participating in what the local call a "wheelbarrow race" admittedly I had difficulty with this and dishearteningly I did not win, I did revel in the experience. As the sun lowered in the sky I found myself at the Rusty Dragon; not the best cup of coffee I've ever had, but it did have subtle oak notes that I did quite enjoy. Furthermore the innkeeper, Ameiko, happens to be a former adventurer and very hospitable.

That"s when the scene swiftly changed. With a loud clap of thunderous bedlam, I rushed outside to see what happened. I believe the source was one of the townspeople attempting to summon perhaps Father Zantus. I cannot recall the exact preceding events, however my next clear memory is being surrounded by goblins. Wretched little nauseating, repugnant, odorous, loathsome scum. Fortunately I was not alone, other adventurers at the rusty Dragon were drawn to the commotion as well.

All fine persons alike, and I am truly grateful for their assistance, for I am fresh in my journey and if the burden was left to me alone, I surely would not have survived the night. Once my spells were exhausted I was subject to the whim of an emergency crossbow, brutish thing.

First there is Cackelstone the fair and strong paladin, a monolith in stature and a true pinnacle of justice. when temptation sought to vex him he stayed true to his convictions, quite admirable.

Then there is miss Yume a fearsome feathered firearmstress whom embodies grace and power.

Finally the Patchouli cousins to my best impression the seem like fine trustworthy gentlemen. They have a grandmother who lives very near town who makes the most delectable mini cannolis, I believe they would pair well with a fine Varisian dessert blend. Curiously though they do mention something called "Sweet leaf" quite a bit, I do have to remember to inquire about it. ...hmm, unless its some sort of tea I absolutely despise tea, the dreadful, heathenesse brew of godless sycophants.

My point is that I just don't like it very much, anyway, much work to be done, and coffee to drink, until the next adventure.

Kackle Stone reporting in Sir. After arriving in Sandpoint as an Envoy from the Temple of Torag, Ive found myself allied with the most unlikest group of individual as one would likely met in helping the town of Sandpoint defend itself. One is one of those strange bird-like creatures, while he seams decent enough that musket of his is extremely loud. There is a mage, I know ive heard that Elves tend to be smelly but so far I havent smelt anything or maybe hes just been down wind of me. The other two seam to be related that is probably understandable seeing they are these small rat looking creature. Hopefully they arent like real rats and just increase in numbers beyond belief.
Well Sir that seams to be it for the moment i will keep you apprised of the situation and goings on in and around Sandpoint.

Kackle Stone reporting in Sir. We dealt with those pesky Goblins, helped the town out with its defense and solved a few problems here and there.
We bought a supposedly haunted Island after venturing here to help out a man in the town recover his son's remains from the island.
In the last big battle we had some spellcasting female was narrowly able to magically get herself out of the confrontation alive we will be ever vigalant waiting and watching for her.Until next time.
