Starfinder = Massive Playtest for Pathfinder 2.0?

I'm just curious - does anyone else think that any significant changes to core rules in Starfinder might be a massive playtest for a potential Pathfinder 2.0?

I know that Wizards later admitted that they did so with Star Wars Saga Edition having many of its rules be prototypes for 4e. (Though I think that Saga Edition was a much better system than 4e myself.)

While I have no doubt that Paizo wants Starfinder to succeed in its own right, I also think that they may use the opportunity to test out new things which they could later use for their flagship (Pathfinder).

Even if they do not do this on purpose, a changed rule that would be hugely popular for StarFinder would be a natural candidate for inclusion in Pathfinder 2.0 if such ever happens

While I do not think that Starfinder was created with field testing in mind, I hope that they do learn from anything that might be useful.

This is something that was theorized for Unchained and the ACG as well... in fact every time a book includes new rules or subsystems someone seem to bring up this idea. i will say here what i say to all of those:

No, of course it is not. But it just a little bit is. Games are not made in a vaccuum, they dont hire new product creators fresh from the cloning vats for every book. Starfinder will be built using the experience of the whole crew from every game they have played before and every book they've written. Any future products Paizo produces will be built off of the institutional knowledge they gain from this product as well.

There was a thread about this I think. Personally I think the answer is yes and no. I don't think that its the intention but I think it could be the result.

Interesting. I remember at the time that Saga Edition was released they actually advertised that it would have bits of the 4e rules in there as an early taste.

I guess that you can't always believe the marketing. :P

I'm not saying that Paizo isn't continuously refining the PF ruleset through the material they publish, it just seems like working up a new ruleset and product line is more trouble than it's worth when they could introduce new mechanics in any of their several existing product lines.

I believe in Starfinder. :P
