This is bugging me more than it should
You gain followers as if you had the Leadership feat, although you cannot attract followers of a level higher than your level – 2. If you also have the Leadership feat, increase your Leadership score by 3 for the purpose of determining how many followers you have.
Am I correct that this feat would give you if you have Leadership:
- The normal amount of followers (Lvl+CHA+Leadership modifier) from the first sentence with soon to be irrelevant level restriction
- A bonus of +3 for the Leadership feat itself from the second sentence
Looks a little bit too strong IMO for just the normal Benefits even for a Story feat and it doesn't seem to be interpreted like that from the few other mentions of it I can find on the web. It's always said to be a flat +3 to leadership. And if you start to consider items like the Diadem of Inspiring Rule (+3 to leadership) or Ring of the Ecclesiarch (double the normal amount) I think it could really have been worded differently as to prevent confusion. For example do you double the 2 amounts of followers because they're 2 separate feat or they both add to the same pool?
I'm overthinking it but I'd like an outsider's opinion.

It does one of two things, depending on whether you have the actual leadership feat.
If you don't have the feat, you gain followers as if you did, but not a cohort and the followers can never be higher than your level -2 (to make sure your 3rd level character doesn't have a 4th level follower for example).
If you do have leadership, you just get more (and better) followers, but you don't have two pools of followers (you already have followers as if you had the leadership feat, since you actually do have the leadership feat.)
