Sohei's Bonus Feats....Really?

Rules Questions

A Sohei can pick "Mounted Combat feats as bonus feats." I assume this means any feat in any feat chain that requires Mounted Combat?

And since monk bonus feats don't require you to meet the feat prereqs, does this mean a level 1 Sohei can use his bonus feat for Mounted Skirmisher?

The ability must do something (there's a legal principle whose latin name escapes me at the moment), and assuming that it means "Mounted Combat and all successive feats" is a reasonable guess.

It does lead to weird outcomes as you point out. It's also inconsistent with how Monk Bonus Feats are structured. So maybe the intent was something else, such as the Ranger Mounted Combat Style.

As far as we're aware, yes.

Mounted Skirmisher is on that list, as well. A ranger can't get it until level 10, but this mentions nothing of level requirements.

I kinda liked dipping Sohei in certain builds anyway, this would make it infinitely better.

I wouldn't be surprised if an errata specified a small list of Mounted Combat feats that could instead only be chosen at 1st, 6th, and 10th levels.

But as it's described now, high level feats such as Trick Riding and Mounted Skirmisher (and the fun ones like Wheeling Charge and Indomitable Mount) can be acquired with just a single level dip.

And although the term "Mounted Combat feats" has no definitive meaning anywhere, what else could it mean if not "Mounted Combat, and any feats that list it as a prerequisite"?
