Any combination is good if it's what the player wants and fits into his concept of the character. Since you're not going to be focusing on power gaming, I kind of don't understand the need for the question. But I'll do my best to help.
Mechanics-wise: Sure! Just remember that the more one multi classes, the less they have in either. If I were playing this character (which I might at some point because it sounds really fun!), I would probably only do a 1 level dip into Barbarian. Having a free action rage is awesome, coupled with cruelties and a conductive weapon, as well as Smite Good could be pretty great.
Edit: Just thought about Smite Good and Rage. Not sure if he could focus on that during a rage or not. That would change some stuff.
Roleplaying: Absolutely yes. This is a roleplaying win. He's a hugely flavored character already, then add in an intruguing backstory and maybe even something like a skin walker for the race and things start becoming very tasty. Sounds like the right-hand muscle man for some Evil Pagan High Priest or Shaman. Which could be a cool BBEG combination, too.

The thing with multiclassing is that when you have level-dependent features, it isn't super appealing. Antipaladin does have a bunch of those, so a heavy multiclass won't work. (As WombattheDaniel said). However, Barbarian is a really good dip, as you would have a good constitution. I agree on roleplaying. "I once was devoted to protecting others. However, I realized that no one would help me in my trouble. My rage can never be consoled, and my only friends now are demons. Now, I will find those that left me"

The multiclass would be excellent in both mechanics and flavor, but delaying antipaladin class features could be a pain. How about an antipaladin with variant multiclass barbarian? This would allow you to maintain all of the standard antipaladin class features and tactics at full progression, while gaining rage, uncanny dodge, a rage power, and eventually DR to boost your combat performance.
Alternatively, you could make a really nice insinuator antipaladin archer by dipping a level in primal hunter barbarian. Insinuator removes the need for fighting in melee by swapping out touch of corruption for swift action self-healing, and primal hunter barbarian provides a great damage boost that more than makes up for the slight reduction in smite damage, as well as some extra defense from boosted saves and HP.
Whatever way you go, you could benefit a lot from using your fiendish servant as a mount: if you take Amplified Rage and the Ferocious Mount rage power, as well as purchasing a horsemaster's saddle and/or ring of tactical precision, you can share your rage with your fiendish servant, granting each of you +9 Str and Con, as well as sharing and augmenting whatever other teamwork feats you want.
I might be able to come up with some more ideas. What level is the group starting at?
