I have encountered a bit of a issue. While classing a Rock Troll (Don't ask why... Please...), I began wondering if there was a maximum intelligence needed for a monster to dicern helpful gear from shiny treasure. Would a Rock Troll, with it's almighty Int of 5, be able to display enough intelligence on it's own to begin using magical gear to enhance itself?
My guess is that it could take advantage of fairly simple items, like a magic club or mace, but not complex items, like a magic crossbow, a wand, or most wondrous items.
The penalties for wielding a weapon of the wrong size might be enough to overcome the benefits of using those weapons, though.
