At 2nd level, a duettist's familiar learns to use performance to supplement its skills. A duettist's familiar benefits from its master's versatile performance class feature.
"benefit's from its master's versatile performance class feature" is just vague enough that I have to ask.
Does it use the bard's full performance mod including charisma and any feats? or does it just get to count as having ranks in the related skills.
Example: highest familiar charisma 7 (-2)..lowish familiar wisdom...12 (+1)
Versatile Performance Oratory: replace for diplomacy/sense motive.
Bard Performance: Oratory mod + 1 (rank) +3 (charisma) + 3 (class skill) + 3 (race/feats/familiar benefits etc) = 10
Does the familiar get a 10 in sense motive and diplomacy? (not that it can probably use diplomacy) or does it get to use your perform rank 1 instead of your sense motive/diplomacy rank (presumably 0) and then modify it by its own -2 charisma mod to give it a -1 total in sense motive and diplomacy. I ask because it seems incredibly useless this way and the RAI argument is ironclad...but the RAW argument (the one you have to adhere to in PFS) seems weak.

Freelancer who wrote the archetype here, so I can speak to intent, though I'm not the authority on the book (that would be Owen). It is definitely not intended to copy your total bonus. It uses its own modifiers, but with your ranks in Perform, as you expected as written. If you want those even higher, pick a mascot and it'll have Perform as a class skill (or alternately, a lyrakien, with 20 Cha and Perform as a class skill, is a strong Improved Familiar). The reason why this ability is quite useful, compared to a bard who otherwise obtained a familiar, is that without this ability, at level 7, say, when you have 7 ranks in all your skills, your familiar would have major holes in whatever skills are your versatile performs. I know this because I played a bard with a familiar before the book came out (a lyrakien, actually) and this came up for me, so that's why I knew this class feature was necessary to transfer to a bard the intent of a familiar sharing your ranks with its other modifiers.
