Warpriest: Sacred Weapon

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

With the Warpriest's Sacred Weapon ability the description read "At 1st level, weapons wielded by a warpriest are charged with the power of his faith. In addition to the favored weapon of his deity, the warpriest can designate a weapon as a sacred weapon by selecting that weapon with the Weapon Focus feat; if he has multiple Weapon Focus feats, this ability applies to all of them" does this mean that you do not need to have a weapon focus feat for the favored weapon of your diety? This would mean that at 1st level by selecting a different weapon with the bonus Weapon Focus feat you can make 2 different weapons sacred at 1st level. though given round duration that isn't actually possible at 1st level

Yes, you do not need to take weapon focus with your deities weapon to get sacred weapon damage with it.

I don't really know what you mean by "though given round duration that isn't actually possible at 1st level". Sacred weapon damage is always on, unless you choose to take it off before you strike.

Liberty's Edge

I think he might be referring to the 4th level power of sacred weapon to increase the enhancement bonus of your sacred weapon. But once again, you only gain that part of the sacred weapon ability at level 4. You don't need to enhance the weapon to also receive the damage dice bonus on sacred weapons.

Yes, Warpriests get the effects of Sacred Weapon with the favored weapon of their deity regardless of whether they also have Weapon Focus for that weapon. Yes, a Warpriest who takes Weapon Focus in a different weapon could have Sacred Weapon for two types at first level. Indeed, a human Warpriest could have as many as four Sacred Weapon types at 1st level by spending other feats on Weapon Focus.

I'm not sure what you mean about 'round duration' preventing 2 different weapons. A Warpriest need only wield two weapons of types they have Sacred Weapon for in order to get Sacred Weapon damage on each. That could be two weapons of their deity's favored weapon type, or a favored weapon and one they have Weapon Focus with.

It should be noted that there usually isn't much benefit to having multiple sacred weapons. You'll always be -1 to hit with the favored weapon if you didn't take weapon focus in it, and pathfinder rewards specialization in a weapon.

Highly dependent upon the gods favored weapon. Claw and you don't have one? Dagger when you're building an archer warpriest? Whip favored weapon? Greatsword when you're playing a halfling? All sorts of reasons not to take the gods favored weapon as your weapon focus weapon.

Oh I agree that the favored weapon is largely irrelevant to what you are choosing as your sacred weapon. But the fact that you get it for free doesn't really make it useful.

Liberty's Edge

i would focus a bow and mainly use that but for when i need melee it's good to knnow i could make my favored weapon sacred to bump it up if absolutly necessary
