Stacking Weapon Bonuses

Rules Questions

I was wondering how stacking bonuses worked on weapons. An example would be a masterwork light mace +3. From my understanding of what I've read Masterwork gives a +1 attack bonus and the "+3" in the weapon description is a +3 to attack bonus as well. Am I understanding this wrong, Do these stack, or do I just use the highest value?

Highest value. They are both enhancement bonuses, which do not stack.

Thank you so much, I've been searching for an answer and I guess I couldn't really figure it out in my head.

Also to say something is masterwork AND magical is redundant as all magic weapons and armor have to be masterwork in the first place.

So a +2 Longsword implies it is masterwork. Once an item is made magical just imagine the masterwork quality doesn't really matter anymore.

A masterwork weapon gives a +1 to hit.

A +1 weapon gives a +1 to hit and a +1 to damage.

After that it's all linear.

Thank you, that really helps my understanding GoblinDog.

CampinCarl9127, So in my case the +3 adds to both hit and damage?

Yes, it does.

Here's a quick breakdown for you.

Masterwork Weapon +1 to hit
+1 weapon +1 to hit and +1 to damage
+2 weapon +2 to hit and +2 to damage
+3 weapon +3 to hit and +3 to damage
+4 weapon +4 to hit and +4 to damage
+5 weapon +5 to hit and +5 to damage.

And you can't get a strait bonus beyond +5 (although you can add special qualities that bring the effective bonuses beyond +5), so that's everything.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much. You were a huge help!

My pleasure!
