Sovereign Court

Hello there,

I'm trying to figure out how to make a net which can be a relatively consistent part of my repertoire (I plan to make a character with the Net Adept ability). However, the further I look into it, the less distinct it's categorization becomes as a weapon.

For this reason, I'd like to turn to the community to tell me how this would work.

I have a Masterwork Snag Net, made from Darkleaf Cloth, enhanced with Effortless Lace and given the Flaming magic weapon ability. As a Net Adept, I can treat what is normally a two-handed ranged throwing weapon as a one-handed melee weapon.

What are it's HP, Hardness and cost? (This is the most pressing question)
When does the flaming weapon quality deal damage, when I succeed at a touch attack, when someone is damaged for trying to escape the snag net?
Does the Effortless Lace effect allow me to throw the net with one hand without penalty?
Does it fall under the ranged weapon or the melee weapon category?

BONUS: If I use it just to swat at people and not entangle them, do I still deal fire damage?

Darkleaf cloth replaces Leather. Assume the snag net is made from leather.
Leather or hide Hard:2 HP:5/in. of thickness
The Snag Net is a variation of the Net, which has 5 hp. This is equivalent to 1" leather.
Darkleaf Cloth: HP/inch 20; Hardness 10
Since you have 1" equivalent, you have 20 hp with a Darkleaf Cloth snag net.
It's hardness is now 20.
A snag net costs 30 gp and weighs 10#.
You need 10# worth of replacement special material at 375 gp/#.
So add 3,750 gp for the special material
3,770 gp for a masterwork Darkleaf Cloth Snag Net, that weighs 5#, Hardness 10, HP 20.
Flaming requires a magically enchanted weapon, assume +1 for now.
A +1 weapon adds 2 to the hardness and 10 hp.
Flaming is a +1 bonus, which makes a +1 Flaming weapon be equivalent to a +2 weapon.
A +2 weapon is +8,000 gp.
11,770 gp for a +1 Flaming Darkleaf Cloth Snag Net, that weighs 5#, Hardness 12, HP 30.
Effortless Lace cannot be applied to this weapon, since it is a ranged weapon and not a one-handed piercing or slashing melee weapon.
If GM Fiat allow it anyway, add 2,500 gp.

I would hold off on flaming and wait and but anchoring on it. It makes it very hard to remove and their's nothing in the rules that says you can't. I keep a mend spell handy.

why have i never thought of enchanting a net? thats a really good idea, also anchoring is my favorite weapon ability and it would be perfect for a net

Anchoring is a +2 bonus, so a minimum 9,000 gp for a net.

Ghost Touch is only a +1 bonus, so only about 4,000 gp.

I think incorporeals are much harder to deal with with hp damage. A ghost touch net will keep them in place since their ability to escape is bad.

Keep in mind that nets can be destroyed more consistently than other weapons. If you want to have an enchanted net, keep spares.

right, but if you use the net maneuvering feat to disarm them, then trip them, then thtrow to entangle, and then you activate the anchor they'll be locked to the ground without a weapon while you get +4 to hit. this would work better against humanoids than monsters i think

EDIT: or you could just trip them without the disarm
