Crafting Skill Unlock 20 Ranks

Rules Questions

So, if I read this correctly, You can now use that skill to make magic items? Without needing the feats?

Yes.

Of course, as a 20th level character, you're practically a god yourself. With 20 ranks in, for example, Craft (blacksmith) you are probably the best blacksmith in the world.

If you were Greek, you'd be Hephaestus.

I think it's fair to let you make magic items at that amazing level of skill.

Note that you must be an Unchained rogue to do this, or you have to spend a feat for it (Signature Skill).

Of course, long, long before that, you could take one different feat, Master Craftsman, and you could begin making magic items using the same skill without being the most amazing Craft (whatever) in the world.

Which means, this really only benefits rogues - everybody else is going to burn one feat anyway. Then again, if you do make it all the way to level 20 (in a non-rogue class) and want to burn that feat, you can a wider assortment of items than you can usually make with just Master Craftsman.

may i ask what you are talking about?

Skill unlocks from the Unchained book. At ranks 5, 10, 15, and 20 an unchained rogue can "unlock" a new ability for any skill. Other classes need to take a feat (Signature Skill) to get this ability.

you can read about it here

Just making sure cause we've got a game where we're starting level 40 to stop god like beings from destroying the world with our Epic level characters. (We don't get any more exp)

Pregame crafting is a go, so I figured playing a rogue and taking one talent to get two crafting skills would let me do quite a bit things.

Yes, if you're a 20th level rogue or spend a different feat.

This is so underwhelming I can't even describe it, frankly. If you didn't get to do it "off-line" before the campaign in a presumptively infinite amount of free time, it would take you literally years to make a pile of equipment useful to a 20th level character.

Playing at 40th level. Awesome. Reminds me of this thread.

I hope you're not using XP at that level. It doesn't work.

As for crafting, do you plan to craft ALL your wealth? That would be awesome, but it will take at least 85,000 days (that's 232 years). But at least you'd end up with 340 million GP worth of cool magic items.

Yes, I like extending Paizo's charts to new levels. Turns out they get fairly absurd. Feel free to use the extended XP chart and/or extend Wealth by Level chart if you wish (but I suspect your GM is probably doing this more in story mode than basing it off of charts - at least I hope so).

Nope, no Exp. We're level 40 we're not going any higher.

I think my build so far on it is pretty crazy

With Mindblade Magus and base fighter, I'm prof with all monk weapons and can 'equip' a new one as a swift action. They all deal 2d8 points of damage (Ascetic Style), and I share up to 6 feats amongst them.

We're only allowed one epic item (And we can't craft it), but I'm going to craft for two skills, Jewelery and Leatherworking.

Daedalus is also a really great fit for this; he's pretty rogue-ish and one of the best craftsmen in the world of Greek myth, so much so that he was able to make wings of flying for his son without any magic of his own. Too bad how that turned out though...

Nah, he was only level 10 or 12 - if he were a level 20 craftsman, he wouldn't have cut corners with wax...
