Slay ALL the undead! (Warpriest vs Cleric)

Advice

I know a Sun/Glory Cleric will wreck some undead face, and am very familiar with said build.

However, I haven't touched a Warpriest yet, and I wanna know how they compare doing the same role.

Advice appreciated!

Clerics will do more damage against swarms of undead.

Warpriests will do more damage against a single undead.

Since Channel Smite is much more easily utilized by Clerics, aren't they going to be just as good against a single-target undead though?

I mean, I know Warpriests will be better in combat in general with the faster self-buffing and the higher number of combat feats, but that's all general combat stuff.

Warpriests also just do better and more reliable damage in melee (barring a lot of prep time where a cleric could cast multiple high-level buff spells) so they would do more damage to single targets reliably.

CampinCarl9127 is pretty much spot on. If the warpreist takes the champion of the faith archetype they become a pseudo paladin but with better magic and less martial power. This is probably the strongest anti-undead build for a warpreist.

Which is better is going to depend on what the rest of the party is playing. If you have a paladin in the group then I think the cleric is actually better. The paladin can take down the BBEG like no one else, but will have a more difficult time vs a large number of weaker foes. The cleric especially an Aasimar cleric with Glory and Sun domains will be just the opposite. Then complement each other very well. The cleric can often clear the way for the paladin to get at the BBEG without getting bogged down with the minions.
