So I know that awesome blow does damage and sends an enemy flying "back" 10' but if that enemy is mounted what's the protocol here?
Is he dismounted and knocked back?
If you awesome blow the mount are they both knocked back and prone?
If yes to above is the player placed in a square next to the prone mount or are they piled on top of each other?
Is there a ride check here anywhere that overcomes a feat?

A rider can be dismounted by just taking regular damage - as staying in the saddle after taking damage requires a ride check. Now - granted, if ride is a class skill, and you have a rank in it (barring any ACP) you will auto make the stay in saddle ride check... And even without ranks or class skills, the check is only DC 5.if you have 8 Dex, are riding in full plate and a heavy shield, and you have no ranks... Ok, what did you expect?
All this is to say, nothing about ride checks or the mounted combat feat make you immune to getting dismounted. If your mount gets hit - well - you roll a ride check to stay on it. But if you get knocked off the mount - via Awesome Blow, a leaping Bull Rush, the Drag or Reposition maneuvers - then a ride check isn't going to help you. But to resist any of these maneuvers, you are - in fact trying to stay in your saddle. As such, the +2 bonus the basic saddle gives and the +4 bonus that military saddles give towards staying in your saddle, SHOULD be added to your CMD to resist the maneuvers.
If a creature is big enough to use an awesome blow against your mount (and succeeds), your mount is launched 10 feet and is knocked over prone. This sudden motion triggers a "stay in saddle" check - which, honestly, I would chose to fail - because failing a stay in saddle allows you to roll a ride check for a "soft fall" - if you make the DC 15 ride check - you take no damage, and land on your feet - it's like you jumped off the mount as is got smacked aside.
I believe this is the best situation, otherwise you are taking a minimum of 1d6 damage from falling prone with the mount... Though, if I were DMing, I would also say the rider is grappled as well (under the weight of the mount).
