Darius Redgrave
School transmutation [fire]; Level druid 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target metal equipment of one creature per two levels, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart; or 25 lbs. of metal/level, all of which must be within a 30-ft. circle
Duration 7 rounds
Saving Throw Will negates (object); Spell Resistance yes (object)
Heat metal causes metal objects to become red-hot. Unattended, nonmagical metal gets no saving throw. Magical metal is allowed a saving throw against the spell. An item in a creature's possession uses the creature's saving throw bonus unless its own is higher.
A creature takes fire damage if its equipment is heated. It takes full damage if its armor, shield, or weapon is affected. The creature takes minimum damage (1 point or 2 points; see the table) if it's not wearing or wielding such an item.
On the first round of the spell, the metal becomes warm and uncomfortable to touch but deals no damage. The same effect also occurs on the last round of the spell's duration. During the second (and also the next-to-last) round, intense heat causes pain and damage. In the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, the metal is searing hot, and causes more damage, as shown on the table below.
Round Metal Temperature Damage
1 Warm None
2 Hot 1d4 points
3–5 Searing 2d4 points
6 Hot 1d4 points
7 Warm None
Any cold intense enough to damage the creature negates fire damage from the spell (and vice versa) on a point-for-point basis. If cast underwater, heat metal deals half damage and boils the surrounding water.
Heat metal counters and dispels chill metal.
Heat Metal damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Darius doesn't engage in the fight thinking that the lone werewolf could be done for soon, but turns around and looks into the woods around them instead.
"Um, friends, any chance that howl that he let off isn't one calling for reinforcements?"

"Fellas! Everyone! We've got problems incoming."

Looking past the wolf at Duristan Grergof says:
Sir, if a whole clan comes we would become the hunted, rather then the hunters. Maybe you want to lead us back to the lodge now?
Darius Redgrave
"I'd listen to the follower of Sarenrae if I were you Duristan, otherwise we might all end up as wolf meat in a few moments."
GM Foxy
Looking around for his companion and taking his own health into consideration the wolf decides to retreat.
Duristan tries to cover his anxiety but it is clear that he is in over his head with that. He expected the werewolfs to be a lot smaller and easier to fight. Instead he almost became a chew toy. "Yes. For the sake of those not fit for the fight and the unfavorable odds that might result from more of them showing up - let us retreat."
depending on your positioning it might be impossible for the wolf to leave without provoking. Your decision.
Brother Grergof Varsk
If we were really flanking, I don't think there's a way to retreat without drawing an AoO, but story wise Im fine letting letting him go. He would probably retreat away from me anyway.
Grergof shouts to the others (Including the remaining servants):
You heard the Man! Form up and retreat, leaving everything behind! I will act as rear guard. Now Move!
GM Foxy
Upon your return to Ascanor, the halfling porter Belik greets you. He wears an apologetic grin and carries a silver tray holding hand-carved wooden mugs containing a steaming beverage. Belik calls out and beckons you over. "Please accept my most sincere apologies for my inappropriate behavior earlier. I was not informed of your coming and acted hastily on behalf of the lodge warden. I can assure you that you will suffer no further ill treatment during your stay at Ascanor Lodge." He politely offers you hot coffee, and then continues.
"If it's convenient for you, my master requests your company at this time for a brief introduction and to offer his apologies as well."
Darius Redgrave
Darius comes running up, panting, trying to catch his breath and wheezing a little, then finally a word "Coffeh." and takes a mug of coffee and nods and leans against a wall, still out of breath.
Brother Grergof Varsk
Grergof ignores the offer of refreshment and quickly checks the others.
Is anyone hurt? he asks urgently of the others.
If anyone else identifies themselves as hurt he gathers the hurt together and he calls out:
Mr. Redgrave, can you help, we are all wounded.
If no one else identifies as hurt, then he will simply heal himself.
Darius Redgrave
If anyone is hurt Darius will channel some healing for everyone.

"What? Grergof, you were bitten!?" Darius says concerned.
"Iomedae has given me some spells to help with restoration and removing curses. Will they help?" Darius asks Duristan
Brother Grergof Varsk
Yes, I was bitten, is that a problem? What special protections can you take against them? Do the local variety carry infections or something? I normally don't get sick.
Grergof asks completely confused what the big deal is, as the monastery he grew up in really didn't teach about were-creatures.
What knowledge is Werewolf info? Grergof would not know it,
he really only knows religion.
GM Foxy
Only one roll to read all that your roll covers.
Duristan replies "If you're immune then you're fine. I got a special treatment from a witch that protects me from lycanthropy." He pulls down his collar to show. "If you want I can introduce you to her to get one too."
Stam Truthfinder
K. Arcana: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
"Sir, ah I wish to inform you that the "protection" that witch game you is false. I have seen it before it is called a Scar Hex It allows the witch to maintain control over your person." Stam looks around then moves behind Grergof a bit.
K. Local: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Stam tells all he knows.
Brother Grergof Varsk
Mr Stam, do you know of any way to remove this hex?
Grergof looks at Stam as he finishes telling what he knows about werewolfs:
Ummm... That's not good. If it's a curse, I may be susceptible to it... And Lord Duristan could be at risk too.
Wait don't we have Wolfsbane from the corpse we found?
Brother Grergof Varsk
While Mr. Spugnoir is working out how to work with the Herb, Mr. Stam, do you have any idea how to remove the Hex from Lord Duristan?
Stam Truthfinder
"I am not really sure, hexes are not my specialty. We could find the witch and force them to do it, killing them might do it. Someone who can remove curses maybe?"
Stam allows his magical sight to take over inspecting the body of Duristan
Darius Redgrave
"Actually, I could remove the curse. But would it be the right thing to do? Are you a good man Duristan" Darius says eyeing him suspiciously.
GM Foxy
Duristan is irritated by this discussion. "I don't want to lose my protection. Much less now that I need it most!" he declines the offer.
For Spugnoir it is an easy task. He sets up his portable lab in the midst of the entrance to the lodge and starts brewing the wolfsbane blossoms into three potions of wolfsbane extract.
All while Belik is standing there waiting for an answer.
Brother Grergof Varsk
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Sir, I don't think you understand, my companion is quite knowledgeable in arcane matters and he is telling you that you have NO protection against werewolfs, but instead a witch tricked you to open yourself up to be controlled by evil forces. You don't have to believe him, but I swear by my faith in the Dawnbringer, I believe he is honest.
For your own protection and the protection of everyone here, I strongly suggest you find a Mage you trust, that is not this witch and get a second opinion. Worst case, you find out this truely does protect you and have spent a few minutes to prove you are safe. But if he is right, those few minutes could save your life, your family's reputation and all the other guests that are here.
Then with that said he turns to Belik and says:
I apologize for the delay, but the safety of your lodge seemed more important then the momentary delay. I hope you agree? Yes? Good, please lead on to your master Sir.
Estovion Lozarov
Lozarov stands up behind his table and comes out to greet everyone. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Please do not hold the actions of my porter against him. The error in your improper greeting was entirely mine. I neglected to inform my staff of the open invitations I gave to the Order, and they did not recognize the reservations. Rest assured, however, that all of the lodge’s facilities are at your disposal, including our libraries. While the general library is down the hall, this one," he says, gesturing at the book-filled shelves, "is likely better suited to your research."
"But I have to apologize again, as we have currently only two free rooms and I can't offer everyone of you a room of your own."
Stam Truthfinder
Stam will follow, after Estovian talks about a library Stam's eyes brighten.
"SO we are free to browse and read as we wish? I am fine with sharing a room, I am used to it."
Stam will sit down to prevent himself from just running off.
Brother Grergof Varsk
Yes, we understand competently about sharing a room. You had no warning that we were coming, so we can not expect you to be prepared for us.
We wish to cause the least issues possible for you, so are there any other important guests that we should know about? We do not wish to offend anyone because we had not known who they were.
Estovion Lozarov
"Most of our guests are nobles of some kind and I assume you know the etiquettes. Duristan Silvio Ariesir you have already met. But most of the other guests prefer to be let alone or will introduce themselves to you. I don't parttake in the gossip but if you're interested there is no shortage of guests who like to share."
Looking at you he hesitates for a moment but then adds "I know you had no time yet to refresh yourself - but if I may suggest for the time to come not to wander the lodge as if prepared for war."
Everyone with at least one rank in Knowledge(Nobility) knows the ettiquettes. Everyone else has to make a roll for 10 or risk making an ass of himself.
Darius Redgrave
"Of course. It's refreshing to find some hospitality here. If you could show us to our rooms I'm sure we'd all appreciate the reprieve to wash up and make ourselves presentable before exploring your town a bit further."
GM Foxy
"We have many comforts and try to please most of our guest's wishes, but we are far from being a town. Lozarov replies flattered.
He points to the door. "Let me show you to your chambers then." He leads you from his office (D31) to the guest room area and hands you the keys to your rooms after opening them a showing you (D26b and e).

Cool just made it
Before he leaves the office Grergof quietly tells Lozarov:
Sir, I also am not in the habit of gossiping, but in this case we just discovered information that I think you must know for the safety of all your guests here.
Lord Duristan was just bitten by a werewolf, but believes himself protected from the curse so will take no action. However, we have determined that his "Protection" is actually nothing of the sort, rather it is a charm to give control of him to some unknown Mage and has no impact on the curse of a werewolf. I'm not saying this is anything, but I though you should know in so he can be observed in case something horrible happens here.
Then he follows quietly to his room to clean up and change into his resting clothing.
Darius Redgrave
Darius leans in and looks at the rooms. "Well these are quite lovely. Thank you Sir. Spugnoir and I will take the one down the hall D26e and Grergof, you and Stam can take that one." Darius says.
"You'll excuse me if I freshen up a bit and rest my feet. What's say we meet back down at the main entrance in an hour?" He says to the party.
Stam Truthfinder
Nobility: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Stam remains quiet when he needs too, "Grergof is right the witch could take control of Duristan could have his mind controlled at a poor time. Just keep an eye on him."
Stam will follow Grergof down the hall, changing his clothing and resting for an hour then going back to meet with Spugnoir and Darius.
"So gentlemen what do we wish to do now?"
