I'm curious as to what level the spells the witchguard gains are at? does he gain them all at once and can cast them if prepared normally? What about spells that don't fall onto the ranger spell list? Are they cast at his current level? Or are they added as a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th level spell to his list, in the order they appear?
I'm somewhat new to PF and want to wrap my head around this as I want to play this archetype.
Quoted for context.
Patron (Su)
A witchguard learns something of arcane magic from the witches he defends. At 4th level, when a witchguard gains the ability to cast spells, he must also select a patron, as the witch class feature. This patron is usually the same as the patron of the witch he is sworn to protect, but the witchguard may choose any patron. The witchguard adds the first four spells from his patron’s spell list to his ranger spell list. The witchguard cannot cast patron spells of a level he is unable to cast.

Witchguard is a Ranger archetype from Pathfinder Player Companion: People of the North (PFRPG).
As such, he would follow the ranger spell progression as any other ranger.
At level 4, he can cast lvl 1 spells, but has a base availability of 0, so he'll only get those spells if he has bonus spells for his casting stat.
At level 5 and 6, he can cast 1 level 1 spell, plus whatever bonus spells for his casting stat.
Etc.
The non-ranger spells added to his spell list are added at whatever level they appear on the original list.

I get the part about the regular ranger spell list, I am more asking in regards to the Patron spells that get added to his list.
Using the agility patron as an example, the first 4 are as follows.
Agility: 2nd—jump, 4th—cat’s grace, 6th—haste, 8th—freedom of movement
haste does not appear on the ranger spell list, while jump is ranger 1, cat's grace is ranger 2, and freedom of movement is ranger 4.
Do the spells get added in a similar manner to how it is done with a witch? at 2nd caster level a witch could use jump from her agility patron, even though it isn't on the regular witch spell list? Do all 4 just get added to the list? Or is there a progression as to when they can be used? The way it is worded is confusing me on this.
