Damage on a two-handed ranged weapon?

Rules Questions

I have a custom weapon created for a pathfinder campaign.
It's effectively a greatclub with a two-handed sling attached. I know damage of this weapon applies the 1.5x strength bonus on attacks, but would the ranged portion, since it requires two hands to use, also have the 1.5x strength bonus?

Sling Staff

Here is an example of what you are doing. That should help you out.

Scarab Sages

Considering that you need a feat to gain 1.5 str damage on thrown weapons, I'd say the weapon should not have 1.5 str on ranged attacks by default.

Bows require two hands. Crossbows require two hands. They don't get x1.5 STR damage. They don't get STR damage at all so maybe that doesn't apply.

When Paizo created the Two Handed Thrower feat they said that the normal rule is you add your STR mod to thrown weapons regardless of the number of hands you use. That's thrown weapons (which doesn't apply to slings), but it does set a precedent that using ranged weapons that DO allow STR mod for damage still don't get the x1.5 modifier for using two hands.

I would assume the precedent should apply to any version of a Slingstaff or Slingclub or any other two handed projectile weapon.

Frankly, the opposite interpretation (which is much harder to justify) just might make this the best ranged weapon in the game (at least for muscly guys), which might not be your intention.

That is what I was thinking as well, just 1x Str for two handed sling, but a few of my fellow players thought otherwise. I wanted to check on here with people who may have more knowledge than I.

Thank you all!

I would allow this for the cost an exotic weapon proficiency feat I think. If 1.5 is worth a feat for throwing, it should be worth a feat for ranged too.

The existence of other ways to gain exotic weapon proficiency makes this a little more problematic perhaps.

the sling staff of course is not a two handed staff, it is club. It reloads more or less like a light crossbow. I might consider a two-handed sling staff able to do 1.5 str damage without any feats (just a martial weapon for example) but have it reload like a heavy crossbow. I think that would maintain balance as well.
