Hey there. So, my local PFS game group is going to be finishing Iron Gods Book 2, and as I was looking over the Chronicle Sheets I'm going to give out when they complete it, I noticed a few things that caught me off guard. (In a good way!)
First, new tech-themed archetypes. Yay! That's amazing! But... I do have a few questions that I'm hoping someone will ask.
1. The Cyber-Soldier is a wonderful fighter archetype that focuses entirely on combat with cybernetic appendages, getting a bonus to hit with his cybernetic arms. (I'm seeing a future Darth Vader themed Hellknight in the making...) However, nowhere in the archetype is the purchasing of a cybernetic mentioned. In Pathfinder Society, you can't just buy things off the Technology Guide. It needs to be on a chronicle. The first cybernetic arm mentioned on a chronicle appears in "The Choking Tower", which is Level 11-13, long after the cyber-soldier is relevant.
Are cyber-soldiers really just supposed to go through eleven or more levels with bonuses that he can't even apply, thus making the entire archetype pointless? Or is a Cyber-Soldier allowed to purchase cybernetics, seeing as it's his entire archetype's schtick.
2. Ah, the Techslinger. Amazing archetype, I love it. It's well written and not especially overpowered. (Weaker than the Musket Master, in my opinion. But it's also way cooler, so the Techslinger has that going for him.) I have only one question about the Techslinger, but it's an important one.
It's stated both in the Technology Guide, and on Archives of Nethys that the Techslinger "still starts play with the black powder blunderbuss, pistol, or rifle". Does that mean that the Techslinger gains access to a rifle? Or does that somehow mean musket? Knowing Pathfinder Society, it probably means musket only, but if it's not, I'd like to be sure.
I'd love to get an official wording on all these! Thanks very much!

1. you have to wait until level 12 (or 11.5 if on slow track) for cybertech unless it is on another chronicle.
2. As the gunslinger will be level 5 or 6 by the time he applies the chronicle the level 1 power doesn't really matter.
Both archetypes are applied to the character they are assigned to so the boon is useless to non-gunslingers and fighters.

1) Cybernetics do not become available unless they appear on chronicle sheets.
2) Advanced firearms are not legal in PFS.
Just making the archetypes legal doesn't change that in either case. It may have been the case that the intent was to allow people to play characters with such after they had gotten that chronicle but the wording doesn't say so.

One alternative, which is perfectly legal, is to apply 'slow play' credit for parts IV and VI to a level 1 character (making it level 2)**, and then apply Part II credit to the same character (when it hits level 5) - although you will still be limited by the *cost* of the cybernetics, at least that way you will have access to eyes, two arms, and a pair of legs :-)
**Because although you do not receive the benefits of the boons on the chronicle sheet until your PC is at the level the boons would have been awarded at, the item access is not limited in this fashion.

Not far off... I'm totally planning a cyber soldier turned Hell Knight, but while the Vader theme would be cool I really just want a cyber armed Hellknight with a chainsaw.

That sounds fantastic. Are you certain boons don't apply?

You need to apply chronicles as they are earned. So you can't apply chronicles for campaign mode play out of order to the same character.

@Michael: Yes, you apply them as they are earned but that is not necessarily the order the credit 'comes on-line' (especially if you are GMing).
For example, as per the Guide, normally, you hold the chronicle until the character is within the level range (so, for example, a 5-7 chronicle can be applied to a level 3 character, but does not 'come on line' until 5th-7th level).
Alternately, you have the option to reduce the rewards from a chronicle to 1.5 XP, 2 PP, and 1398gp (or half that if slow-playing) so that you can immediately apply the chronicle to a level 1 PC.
For modules and Adventure Path content below 9th level, if you do not have a character in the correct level range, you may use a Pathfinder Society pregenerated character, available on paizo.com or the 1st- and 7th-level iconic characters on pages 275–297 of the Pathfinder RPG NPC
Codex. You must apply the credit to your character as soon as she reaches the level of the pregenerated character played. If you play a non-1st-level pregenerated character, you may apply credit from the pregenerated character to one of your 1st-level characters, with the gp gained reduced to 1,398 gp (or 699 gp for slow advancement track characters). If you play a non-1st level pregenerated character, you may apply the credit to your character as soon as she reaches the level of the pregenerated character played. Equipment listed on the pregenerated character sheet may only be sold to clear conditions, such as death, during the play of the module and any remaining gold does not carry over at the end of the module.Alternatively, if you are participating in a Pathfinder Adventure Path with an ongoing group undertaking the entire, six-book campaign, you may receive credit for playing the sanctioned portions of the adventure as if you had played a pregenerated character. In this case, GMs running the Adventure Path are not bound to the rules of the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign (such as 20 point buy, unavailability of hero points, etc...) when running the campaign or the sanctioned portion of the adventure. Pathfinder Society characters and characters from an ongoing Adventure Path campaign may not play in the same adventure.

As a corollary to my previous post:
You may also opt instead to apply the Chronicle sheets earned with a non-1st-level pregenerated character to a 1st-level character with the amount of gp gained reduced, and any character specific boons earned must wait to be utilized until the character is of the same level as the subtier on the Chronicle sheet unless otherwise noted. You do not lose access to any of the Prestige Points, or items listed on the Chronicle sheets that were earned during the adventure, but you do forego downtime.

Ah... Well, that's kind of a huge let down. The archetype is allowed, but the cybernetics the archetype relies on to function properly aren't even usable until level 11.
Oh well. Thanks for the response.
Yeah, I've heard of several players who took that archetype playing in campaign mode that were disappointed that there're no cybernetics until halfway through the campaign. Though they at least might have a chance of purchasing some if they save up their coppers and the GM is really nice to them.
