Guan Dao equivalent?

Homebrew and House Rules

Evening everyone,

I was wondering what folks thought would be a good equivalent for a Guan Dao. I have a player that wants to make a Guan Yu style character for one of my games and want to accommodate in an easy manner. Figure refluffing a polearm will work, just not sure which.

Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks got the suport!

A halberd. That's basically all it is.

Seems legit, thanks bud!

Either a halberd or a naginata. If you want to make a Guan Yu type character, use the stats for a lance, but change the damage to slashing. He was supposedly a heckuva mounted warrior.

The really interesting thing is that there isn't any historical evidence that Guan Yu actually wielded a guandao. It is actually much more likely that he wielded a halberd.

*Guan Yu is actually my favorite individual from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and from the Dynasty Warriors series so I totally get the love.

For what it's worth I had previously considered making a Sohei monk to represent Guan Yu, but only if the campaign started at 6th level. The sohei has pretty much everything you need to be Guan Yu once you reach 6th level.

Hmm, I'll pass that to my player, he was thinking fighter.
