Wow, I was shocked at the EN news D&D5 band wagon and anti Pathfinder rants. You guys published some good stuff. The only good things they had to say we're in regards to Golarion and the APs. Comments from readers included "We hope Paizo buys WoTC and DnD5E" and "Can't wait till they convert the APs to 5E."

Why do you think so many think the 3.5 Pathfinder is rules bloated, cumbersome and not player friendly? I have loved the system since I made the switch from D&D 3.5.

In fact, I can't wait for more. The Occult Adventures and Advanced Class Guide were good. Even Unchained got great reviews.

Is there a plan to woo EN News back to the cause?

ENworld is pretty much a WotC fanpage.

When I first found out the relationship between Pathfinder and D&D I did some research about the differences. Among other things I found a thread on enworld that was still active from before Pathfinder came out about "Pathfailure" and how it wouldn't last a year. The thread was literally years of doomsayers and hate rants while admitting that they were build I characters.

What is it about Pathfinder? How is this game uber popular and complete donkey doo at the same time? I rarely meet anyone that doesn't have some problem or another about the game and I know even more that have some sort of animosity towards it but people still go to PFS, and I get hired with money to GM kids who shouldnt be able to understand the game at all since its apparently a bloated overcomplicated mess.

I was sure 5e would be a hit. When I first saw it my impressed that it looked like a laundry list of everything people complain about in Pathfinder. Dex to damage is just handed out, casting has heavy needs, you can move and attack. (Of course I'm the only one on the planet that found this boring) and man was I right. Some players around here and online are treating it like the second coming despite 13th Age, Dungeon World, Dungeon Crawl Classics, True20, and numerous other popular retroclones of D&D running around beforehand. Heck, given the argument s in favor of 5e I'm surprised Macrolited20 doesn't get more traction.

Although it is true, every brought in my area that is playing 5e outside of organized play is using a Pathfinder AP.

It's player-friendly to the extent that it generally lets players make the type of character concept they want, and there's usually a way of making it effective.

It's bloated to the extent that I hadn't caught up on the ACG and Unchained classes and there's already all these new Occult classes that I don't know anything about, and there are hundreds of feats and spells that probably no-one ever takes.

It's cumbersome to the extent that you need a lot of system mastery you need to be able to recall things like:
:- What's the DC of a Fly skill check if you take damage while flying, and what happens if you fail it?
:- What options are available to someone maintaining a grapple?
:- Does drawing a wand provokes an attack of opportunity? Can it be done while moving?
:- What are the combined effects of Haste, Blessings of Fervor, Bardic Performance and Heroism on a character's attack, damage and saving throws?
:- Does a Vampire lose its base natural armor bonus if it turns into a wolf or dire bat?
How long do you think it takes the average person before they get to the point where they can answer questions like that without spending several minutes searching through the rulebooks?

My system mastery is at the level where I can cope with this stuff, but it's a real headache for casual/inexperienced players.

No, there doesn't need to be. Paizo hosts a site with a message board dominated by PF already.

ENWorld grew out of a D&D-focused message board and it will pretty much always be dominated by D&D. And that's fine.

You make some great points. They seem to be nothing but negative. I respect WoTC and DnD5e, since I started with DnD Basic in 1979. But, Pathfinder kept d20 RPGing Alive through Pathfinder.

Bill, good point.

No. The D20 system is/was used by a whole lot of games that aren't Pathfinder or D&D 3e. Both D&D 4e and D&D 5e are examples. Pathfinder no more kept d20 RPGing alive than Mongoose's Legend kept d100 alive.
