Smite Evil and spell damage

Rules Questions

Hello,

does the paladins Smite Evil attack and damage bonus also apply to spells?
I think yes, since it doesn't mention weapons and says "all damage" rolls explicitly.

So if I had a Paladin/Sorcerer combo, could I smite with Acid Splash, Shocking Grasp or even Vampiric Touch? Add Cha bonus to the touch attack and add my Paladin level to the damage?

What about ability damage? Could I add my Smite damage to the spell Calcific Touch?

Would that be HP damage or ability damage too (the latter option sounds a bit... evil)

Thanks

Yes. It helps on all attack & damage rolls.

Ability damage is not damage though in the traditional sense, so no.

Okay thanks.

One more question:
What happens, when I cast a touch spell and punch the enemy in the face? So, not touch attack but normal unarmed attack which is possible (say I have Improved Unarmed Attack to not get an AOO)

There are 2 damage rolls - the unarmed punch and the spell damage. Would the Smite damage bonus be added once (per attack) or twice (per source)?
I would lean towards once but as per RAW it should be twice.

I would think this would function similar to using a flaming sword, one attack with an add on for dmg, in this case the spell damage is being added to the unarmed dmg, so one smite added.

Smite would be added to both. The spell is a separate source.

Consider this: You have a spell that says: "make a touch attack, if you hit, you mark the target. On your next turn the mark detonates and deals 1d6 damage."

There is no question that in this case you would add smite damage to both the spell and the attack. Why would it be different if the spell has no delay?

There was a discussion here on Paizo on Smite and Spells sometime back. There was one side stating that Smite worked on spells that had no attack rolls, because of the way attack and damage were separated in Smite's mechanics.

In this case, I'd apply it twice. Once to the Unarmed Strike damage and once to the Spell damage.

It is twice, but do note that you cannot make an unarmed strike attack as part of the spellcasting action (where the free touch attack normally comes from). You must spend another action to make the unarmed strike. That's basically why the rules let you double dip in the single successful attack, as you already paid the action economy cost for both attacks, the spell just remains until discharged.

Thanks all. So I think would go with double smite damage if that should happen. :)
What Calth said makes sense, you have to pay extra actions to get that.

But this works with chill touch as it gives multiple touches. Funny, how a necromancy spell works good with smite. 8)
