help with level one rogue

Advice

Grand Lodge

Currently running twf, and twd. As feats. Working towards kill fast and quiet, best attack, and defense as human. Thanks for the help.

Depending on stats, if your dex is higher than your strength, I would take weapon finesse instead of two-weapon defense. Also, are you using the Core Rogue or Unchained Rogue?

Scarab Sages

Two Weapon Defense is a very weak feat, I would skip it.

What weapons are you using?

Yes - even if you really want an AC feat - Dodge is better. (though still not great)

Any late game plans? If you want to go for something with a chain (ex: a feint build) then you'll want to start building towards it.

What made you decide upon human? Fluff (in which case I won't try to change your mind) or mechanics?

Like others have said TWD is weak feat and a wasted feat.

For AC you ca not go wrong with the Magic Talents and getting shield. +4 AC and you don't need to hold it. It is considered Force so it applies to Incorpreal attacks and it Auto Negates Magic Missiles...that is a very nice list of reasons to pick it up.

If your Running the Unchained rogue (you should Core rogues are freaking terrible) I recommend Rolling with a Elvan Curved blade. You wind up with more feats than going TWF and you save gold on a single weapon. 2 handed has the benefit of not needing to rely on Full attacks to be effective like TWF does. But this is my personal preference. I only like TWF on Ranger/Slayer classes and prefer them both to a rogue. (I hate the rogue class) but I will give you advice based on what I know to work.

Thanks for the help, since I played my first night I quest I'm stuck. I ended up with weapon finesse, and improved int. I went to negative four twice. Was playing mid tier, at shadows door.

Scarab Sages

If you are playing PFS you can completely rebuild your character as many times as you like as long as you haven't played at level 2.

See if your DM will allow retraining to drop feats and take others. I allow it on our Adventure Paths up to 5th level.

As an aside... 1st level Rogue (your title) playing mid-tier PFS scenario (CR5 or thereabouts) are you sure?

Grand Lodge

Yes I'm sure, it was mid tier 6 people in party mostly level one and level two, with a level seven fighter. So we went for mid tier. Thx I will look into making my rogue better Stat wise and gear. Not sure what this unchained is some of you mentioned.

The book "Pathfinder Unchained" has rewrites of several classes, including a better designed version of the rogue. It's PFS legal and is generally considered strictly better than the core rulebook rogue.

If you were mostly level one/two, you should have played down. The level 7 could deal with the reduced loot, playing up in a 1-7 is a good way to have level ones killed permanently, and you wouldn't have the PP for a raise dead. That was a bad GM call.

Unless of course you are playing in the Core campaign then it's even more useless.

Pathfinder Unchained. They revisited a few classes and gave them a facelift. Rogue (buffed), Barbarian (made easier and less mathy), monk (buffed them), and summoner (Redid their spell list and Redesigned the pet design)

The Unchained Rogue is Superior to the Core in many ways.
Built in Dex to hit/damage by level 3, Signature skills (Better at skills), More combat options. They got a major Face lift taking them out of the Spot of worst class in Pathfinder.

I highly suggest picking up a copy of the PDF or Book as it will instantly make your rogue stronger.

Myself If I'm looking to play a rogue type character I usually choose: Investigator (Skill Master), Slayer (More combat focused but decent skills), Alchemist (just a great class), and/or Bard. The actual Rogue class does not even get on my list.

The Unchained Rogue defiantly makes TWF easier...but like I said before I prefer the Elvan Curved Blade and 2 handed damage.

Edit: Dang with the Ninja answers lol.

Sovereign Court

Another vote to switch over to the unchained version of the rogue. It will also give you more options since it gives you Weapon Finesse for free at level 1, and perhaps most notably, at level 3 you get your dexterity score to your damage instead of strength.
