Advice for a half-crazed sling staff focused Halfling

Advice

I want to build a sling staff focused Halfling who was a slave growing up and the lifestyle made him mentally crack just a bit. Mostly a good person but sometimes off his rocker with a gleeful craze. He will heartily believe cats really do always land on their feet and occasionally try to load one into his sling staff and catapult it.

For combat I want him to be ranged focused and will utilize the new stuff in the Weapon Master's Guide.

I'm not sure what to do for class, though. I want to make a viable ranged attacker, and the thought of a paladin or zen archer for cool ranged attacks was initially interesting, but I'm not sure it would fit the character. I can't see him being zen enough to be a monk, nor lawful enough to be a paladin. Currently leaning Fighter.

Note: The DM is disallowing multi-classing in this campaign.

Ideas?

Fighter (Weapon Master)

S: 14 D: 18 C: 12 I: 12 W: 10 Ch: 9 (20 pt Halfling)

Racial Trait:
- Warslinger (free action to load a sling)

Feats:
- Weapon Focus: Halfling Sling Staff (1st)
- ??? "from Weapon Master's Guide, let's Warslinger work on sling staff) (fighter 1)
- Point Blank Shot (fighter 2)
- Rapid Shot (3rd)
- Precise Shot (fighter 4)
- Deadly Aim (5th)

At 1st:
+6 to hit for 1d6+3 damage

At 2nd:
+8 to hit for 1d6+4 damage

At 3rd:
+8/+8 to hit for 1d6+5/1d6+5 damage

At 4th, pending has it has gone thus far, you can go for more accuracy (Precise Shot) or for more raw damage potential (Deadly Aim). Since he is half crazed, you might even further be inclined to skip Precise Shot at first.

Something along those lines set you up as quick as possible into a sling staff prodigy.

That's a slick build. I was figuring something along those lines, and fighter seems like the best option due to the feat requirements to pull this off.

Thanks!

Ilsurian Archer Ranger in the Weapon Master's Handbook might be good as well. Nothing in the achtype requires you to use a bow, only ranged weapons.

If you want to be extra annoying to spell casters, you could load you sling with the occasional thunderstone. You take a penalty for shooting it, but nothing says slightly crazed like hurling stones that explode and make people deaf.

I posted this in another thread. It uses the War Priest to make a solid sling-staffer. He uses the Switch Hitter style of Combat...Just flows from ranged combat to melee when someone closes in.

He uses Feats, Sacred weapon, Magic Items, and Magic to boost his damage output...Its actually pretty solid...your not going to beat a pure archer or a Pure 2 Handed Barbarian....but you will be efficient in both ranged and melee combats and have damage that others can respect.

Halfling Slingstaff using Warpriest:

Halfling w/ Warslinger and Adaptive Luck alternate Racial

20 point buy: Str: 14, Dex: 14, con: 14, Int: 12, Wis: 14, Cha: 9

Traits:
Fate's Favored
Campaign Trait or Whatever

Domains: Good and Luck

Feats per Level:

1 HD: Weapon Focus- Sling Staff, Slipslinger Style
3 HD: Point Blank Shot, Power Attack
5 HD: Rapid Shot
6 HD: Deadly Aim or Big Game Hunter or Halfling Slinger (Take your Pick based on how your fighting the most)
7 HD: Weapon Specialization- Sling Staff
9 HD: Greater Weapon Focus- Sling Staff, Improved Critical- Sling Staff
11 HD: Quicken Blessing- Good (Instant Buddy!)
12 HD: Greater Weapon Specialization or Improved Precise Shot(If you don't plan on get seeking on your Slingstaff)

Go forth and Make Tasslehoff Burrfoot proud! Earn respect for the little folk.

I took a slightly less crazy approach. I went warpriest/hunter to take advantage of the melee-and-ranged aspects of the sling staff. In Warpriest I took the Divine Commander archetype.

I ride around on a wolf with the following feat plan:

WP 1 Weapon Focus: sling
Lvl 1 Point Blank Shot
WP 3 Pack Flanking
Lvl 3 Combat Expertise
Lvl 5 Slipslinger
Hntr 2 Outflank
Lvl 7 Paired Opportunists
Hntr 3 Broken Wing Gambit
lvl 9 Enfilading Fire
lvl 11 Coordinated Shot
WP 9 Weapon Specialization
Lvl 13 Greater Weapon Focus
WP 12 Broken Paw Gambit
Lvl 15 Precise Shot
lvl 17 Greater Weapon Specialization
lvl 18 Halfling Slinger
Lvl 19 Rapid Shot
