Ways to make a colossal, non-humanoid caster not suck at hitting with ranged spells


Advice


The -8 to hit is killing me here... Even with BAB +7/+2 and 12 dex (already using expensive items to get to that), it's at +0/-5 overall... Are there other feats/spells/etc. I can use to land even ranged touch attacks at mid level play?

* Reckless aim I found but it is a 2 feat investment I'd rather not make for such a small bonus. Maybe.

* It's a non-humanoid that has pretty much no remaining slots available for items.

* I can do invisibility or vanish if really necessary to get a small bonus of making them lose their dex bonus for not seeing me attack, but that's all I seem to be able to find.

* Most of my attacks are not rays, so weapon focus doesn't help.

* Reduce is not an option due to the creature type making it an invalid target.

(don't want to give overly giveaway details on exact type in case players are prowling from my table)


Being huge is a huge penalty. Would it be easier to land the spells as part of a spellstrike? I know that you're limited to not using items, but if you were an Eldritch Archer magus, you could toss in a Belt of Hurling. Perhaps Blinkback, too, if you can go that extra mile. It'll let you use STR to hit, although you'll be hitting against regular AC.


Magic missile?


Polymorph spells.
Specifically, alter self.
Or more specifically, constant alter self with a greater hat of disguise.

If you turn into a small humanoid, you gain +6 Dex, -16 Str, and -8 Con (ouch!). But you also turn your -8 size penalty to attack/AC into a +1 size bonus.


Technically can't wear a hat in the first place, though I guess he could alter self, then put on the hat... more importantly, this is not a feasible option long term due to environmental considerations. It could work for short battles if he can choose the battleground, perhaps. Maybe he just runs away other times. Might work.

Magus, he is not. It's a wizard spell sage, no real opportunity to change class info, it's already baked into the story. That would have been pretty sweet though.

Magic missile is good, yes, and I can load up slots in ways that favor that, but wanting to be able to hit with heavier stuff too ideally.

Lightning Bolt

I could probably come up with a few more. Can you get more specific about level (Does mid mean 3rd level, 4th level or 5th level spells) and build?

And don't forget meta magic feats. Maximized, enlarged, toppling magic missile. Split missiles so each missile effects someone different, and free trip checks + damage from 200 + 20 ft/lvl.
