I am trying to add some interesting/challenging scenes when the PCs are in Kenabres after returning to the surface.
My group is 5 PCs at level 3 - experienced players. Many of the offical set scenes won't even slow them down.
Did you add anything cool/challenging in your campaign and are willing to share?
Thanks

None of the Exploring Kenabres encounters are supposed to be life or death for the PCs, but with a season group of players you need to tighten up that GM belt of yours and add some more difficulty. Add +50% more creatures, maximize hit points for named NPCs, add terrain features.
There are huge trenches in the city cause by marauding Ulkreth demons. Crossing one should be like a small gorge, perfect place for an encounter to happen. You can have ranged combat as they attempt to cross, you can force Climb checks (loss of Dex to AC), high ground bonuses, etc.
Ramp up the tension by describing things watching the PCs from the ruins. Have the howler stalk the PCs block after block especially if they move at night! Let the demonic giant flies use hit and run tactics, especially with their nasty breath weapons! Use the darkness spell-like ability liberally.
Houses and buildings are on fire (especially in New Kenabres and the Ring District) use smoke and heat danger during encounters trying to rescue trapped citizens or being started by tiefling looters or abrikandilus who have fire resistance.
At every crossing point from one district to another there should be a patrol of demons or cultists using the walls as defensive positions. Give alchemical weapons or things like bags of caltrops to cultists or tieflings.
Make your encounters more dynamic through situatons and terrain. Don't just roll randomly, craft more specific encounters between the major setpieces of Blackwing, Defender's Heart, Gwerm's Manor, Anevia's home, and the Tower of Estrod.
Watch some war or disaster movies set in major cities to get a feel for how to set the tone of the encounters. Battle Los Angeles, Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers episode 8 the Last Patrol, etc.
