5e Unearthed Arcana: Light, Dark, Underdark

4th Edition

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

Link to the article.

Nothing revolutionary, just a couple of fighting styles and archetypes (Deep Stalker Ranger), Shadow Sorcerer, and Pact of Undying Light (Positive Energy Plane) for Warlock.

Overall I like it, seems like a lot of competitive (perhaps too competitive?) options. Not many ribbons here.

I'm not a big fan of the Peplock's recommended flavor, but that can be mostly ignored.

Scarab Sages

I gotta say, I am not liking 5th Edition's art so far. Whatever happened to the totally awesome "eldritch tome" art on the 3.0 books???

Close Quarter's Shooter seems a little too much, with it granting parts of two different feats (even if its limited to 30') in addition to a to hit bonus. I'd probably drop the bonus before allowing it in my games.

I like the Light Warlock, though the lack of an actually patron bothers me, as does granting Cha to damage at 1st level when other classes don't get comparable abilities until 6th or 10th level.

I was surprised the Light Warlock only got 1 spell per level, instead of 2. Also, I would think it would get faerie fire and/or guiding bolt.

But those archetypes seem specialized for a particular campaign.

That pact might fit my warlock...

Good to see some more free stuff for 5e :)
