Rogue talents, chained and unchained...

Rules Questions

The Exchange

So I am thinking about building a rogue with the counterfeit mage archetype. My question is can I take the version of minor magic rogue talent from the unchained book or can that only be used by an unchained rogue? Because at will level 0 spell would be way better than only having it 3 times per day.

Unchained options can only be taken by the Unchained classes. I don't know why you wouldn't go Unchained rogue over Core rogue if that option is available. All archetypes are available to Unchained rogues.

I didn't realize you could still take archetype with unchained.

You sure can! The PDT chimed in on this shortly after the book was released. While some of the names for abilities might be different, they are still the same thing and can be replaced as the old ability by archetypes. Lastly, I agree that the new magic talents are far better than the old ones, especially if you can take the elven racial FCB!

Only Unchained Monk can't take the same archetypes as before, all the other unchained classes can.

That's good news. Could you guys link me to that so I can reference it later?

- The unchained barbarian qualifies for any archetype that does not modify how the rage class feature operates (such as the urban barbarian archetype), and she is limited to any barbarian rage power that appears in Chapter 1 (including the rage powers on page 13)

- The unchained monk does not qualify for any archetypes, save those in future publications that specifically cite their compatibility with the unchained monk class.
- The unchained rogue qualifies for all existing rogue archetypes, but she is limited to any rogue talents listed in Chapter 1 (including the sidebar on page 24).
- The unchained summoner qualifies for all existing summoner archetypes, save those that modify the eidolon's type or base form.
