sneak attack damage and Carrion Hill

Rules Questions

Hello,

I'm about to run Carrion Hill, and I have a Rogue in the party that specializes in sneak attacks and flanking with the party's Paladin.

Is the Chaos Beast from Carrion Hill immune to sneak attack damage? I know it's immune to critical hits already.

Is it this chaos beast?
That has the amorphous quality, which makes it immune to sneak attacks as well as crits.

Close, but this one has some weaker stats, like will saves and SR being somewhat lower.

I don't see any "amorphous quality" in the Carrion Hill description, but I do see it in the one you cited.

Can you post the full stats of the creature? Though generally speaking, anything that isn't listed in the statblock isn't a factor, though some things might be consequences of its Type/Subtype or special qualities that aren't fully written out.

I've got it. One moment, please...

Carrion Hill was written before the chaos beast was officially reprinted - in fact, Bestiary 2 re-uses the module's art. As such, it looks like Mr. Pett did his own updating of the 3.5 statblock.

I'd go ahead and use the one linked above. At the very least, it should have the amorphous quality, and thus be immune to precision damage (such as sneak attack).

Unless you don't want it to be immune to precision damage because that would marginalise the rogue.

I assume he should also change the chaos beast's alignment to evil - otherwise, the paladin will be marginalized by not being allowed to smite it. /snark

On a more serious note, I considered putting this in my post, but decided against it. If you're looking for a rogue fix, I'm not sure arbitrarily assigning/removing monster immunities on a case-by-case basis is the right way.

Plus, if he were going to decide based on that factor, he probably wouldn't be here asking us how it's supposed to work. ^_^

Wow. Twice the attacks as it had before. +1 to SR, and -3 to will save.

This is one nasty beastie! I sure hope my group can handle this.
